The running of the 2011 Preakness Stakes provided a thrill for spectators and bettors alike. As expected it was a fast race. The winner of the second leg of the Triple Crown for 2011 is Shackleford, ridden by jockey Jesus Castanon. Shackleford is owned by Michael Lauffer and trained by Dale Romans. The winner's prize is $660,000 of the total $1.1 million purse.
Animal Kingdom came in second and missed a chance to be the ninth horse to win the Preakness Stakes after also winning the Kentucky Derby. Big Brown last did it in 2008. No horse has won the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978. Astrology came in third with Dialed In fourth.
