Accenture Match Play Day 3 Results: Graeme McDowell Falls, Martin Kaymer Survives

Y.E. Yang continued his impressive run through the Accenture Match Play Championship. As an 11 seed in the Ben Hogan bracket, Yang defeated 2 seed Graeme McDowell to advance to the quarterfinals, where he will face off against Matt Kuchar.

At age 39, Yang is not a young, dark horse candidate like Rickie Fowler or Matteo Manassero. But his play has been difficult to ignore, and his performance is indicative of just how  random match play competition can be.

Luke Donald ended the Cinderella run of 17-year old Manassero, advancing to play Ryan Moore tomorrow.

Martin Kaymer is the only 1 seed remaining in the Championship. Per SBNation.com:

Kaymer survived despite dropping the first two holes of the day to Hunter Mahan. He recovered by the sixth hole, and after once again falling behind by two, the German won four of the final five holes to render the 18th hole unnecessary and win the round.

Waggle Room didn't have anything to say about today's competition, but they did have a pretty interesting story about an exploding golf cart that I highly recommend checking out.
