Report: Steven Threet Leaves ASU Football Team Due To Concussions, Health Concerns

This news is surprising -- we don't often deal with multiple quarterback "retirements" in the same season when we're looking at a college football team. But today, ESPN and Bruce Feldman broke a story that ASU's Steven Threet is calling it a career after sustaining multiple concussions on the field in 2010.

After transferring from the Michigan Wolverines, Threet sat out a season as a redshirt and began the 2010 season for Arizona State as the starting quarterback. He threw for over 2500 yards and completed 18 touchdown passes. He was a likable player, even if he threw a lot of interceptions (16) in his one season at ASU.

Threet sustained three concussions over the season, including one against UCLA that knocked him out for the rest of the season. Upon hearing the news that Threet still "deals with constant headaches," I can't blame him for hanging up the cleats.

Threet is the second ASU quarterback to call it quits this offseason, after Samson Szakacsy decided to pursue other interests

I wish Steven Threet all the best with his recovery from the post-concussion symptoms he is currently afflicted with, and hope that he will be able to remain closely connected to a Sun Devils family that appreciates all the hard work he put in last year.
