The main event for the inaugural UFC on FOX card ended up being a shocker, and perhaps a shorter match than both UFC and FOX were hoping for.
Reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion and ASU alum Cain Velasquez was defeated by knockout in 1:04 of Round 1 by the challenger, Junior dos Santos.
After some initial circling and feeling out, Velasquez was knocked to the mat by a right hand to the side of the head. Dos Santos advanced on the fallen champion and began unloading with ground and pound strikes to the head of Velasquez. After several unanswered shots, the referee stepped in and pulled dos Santos off, awarding him the victory by knockout.
Dos Santos is the new UFC Heavyweight Champion and hands Velasquez his first professional MMA loss. Velasquez won the championship from Brock Lesnar in October 2010. This was his first title defense.
