The Phoenix Coyotes struggled mightily with the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night and fell 5-2 in front of a home crowd of 11,051.
Marian Hossa scored the first goal of the game at 15:06 in the first period. Hossa received a crisp pass from Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith was credited with an assist as well. It was a power play goal, with Lauri Korpikoski in the penalty box for hooking.
The Coyotes tied the game up early in the second period on a goal from Taylor Pyatt. It did not take Chicago long to regain the lead, though, this time with Jonathan Toews lighting the lamp 3:26 into the period. Ray Whitney tied the game once again with third goal of the season, but that would be all the scoring Phoenix would do.
Jamal Mayers and the 'Hawks responded just a minute later to take a 3-2 lead. Chicago added two more goals in the third period to close out the game easily.
Bryan Bickell (3 stars), Patrick Sharp (2 stars) and Dave Bolland (1 star) were the top-3 players of the night.
The Coyotes will resume play against the LA Kings on Thursday night. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m.
