Samson Szakacsy, Arizona State's long-haired, philosophical third string quarterback, has decided to hang up his cleats and focus on the real world. Szakacsy announced that he would no longer play for the Sun Devils, citing his desire to begin focusing on other potential career paths.
Per AZ Central:
"I'm moving forward," Szakacsy said. "I'll graduate in the spring and just take it from there. I have a lot of plans. After I graduate, I want to go to Jerusalem and live and study there for a while. I just want to keep it going."
Szakacsy had trouble staying healthy, with shoulder and arm troubles marring his career at ASU. He is an extremely intelligent man with a bright future, but football is not in the cards for him. He has his eye on bigger goals, anyway: Samson plays music, studies religion, works with charities and truly wants to help others.
The one time I casually met Samson Szakacsy, I knew he was deeper than most people. Despite being at a social engagement, he was not drinking alcohol. It was not football season and he could have done so; instead, he was thoughtful and had interesting topics of conversation, from surfing to playing the guitar. I didn't tell him I wrote for an ASU blog at the time, but I didn't think it was necessary. I just found him to be a very nice guy.
I wish you all the best of luck, Samson. Hopefully you find exactly what you're looking for out of life.
