While he may not have been the first choice for the Phoenix Coyotes to send to Raleigh, Oliver Ekman-Larsson will be representing the Coyotes in this month's All Star festivities, as Phoenix's only representative.
Ekman-Larsson will be one of 12 rookies to take part in the Super Skills Competition on the Saturday night before January 30th's All Star Game. Those 12 rookies will compete with the NHL's best in the skills competition.
On the season, Ekman-Larsson has tallied seven points in 26 games for the Coyotes, while spending time both in Phoenix and in San Antonio, with the Rampage.
Phoenix will also send a pair of minor leaguers to the AHL All Star Game, which is slated for the Monday following the NHL's game. Both Garrett Stafford and Brett MacLean will be representing San Antonio, and Phoenix, in the contest.
Stafford has posted the best numbers of any AHL defenseman, with 30 points on the season, but has not appeared in a game with Phoenix this season. MacLean played one game for the Coyotes this season, netting a goal in his NHL debut. In 36 games for San Antonio, MacLean has 36 points and 16 goals, both leading the team.
The NHL's All Star festivities get under way January 28th, with the "fantasy draft" in which both NHL captains, to be selected next week, will select their squads for the game. The skills competition will be held on Saturday, the 29th, with the NHL and AHL games being held on January 30th and 31st, respectively.
