Phoenix Suns Hire John Treloar As Director Of Player Personnel

New, 3 comments

In a surprise move, the Phoenix Suns will hire John Treloar, 53, as the Director of Player Personnel as first reported by Go Erie.com and confirmed by SB Nation Arizona via league source.

Treloar will be taking on the role currently held by Todd Quinter who has been with the Suns since 1986. It is not yet clear what will Quinter will do for the team or if he will even be staying on in Phoenix.

Treloar will be leaving his job as the head coach of the Erie Bayhawks of the NBA D-league where he worked closely with new Suns GM Lance Blanks. The Erie Bayhawks were the D-league affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers where Blanks was an assistant GM before coming to Phoenix.

As AOL Fanhouse points out, it is an interesting move given Treloar's lack of NBA experience.

The move to the front office is an interesting one when looking at Treloar's resume. He spent 10 seasons as an NCAA assistant coach with Indiana University and Louisiana State University prior to joining the BayHawks coaching staff in 2008. In fact, the only professional basketball front office experience Treloar seems to have was as a general manager in the Continental Basketball Association with the Mississippi Jets and Wichita Falls Texans from 1987-89 prior to moving into the coaching ranks of the CBA.
