Konrad Schmidt is a great story -- undrafted out of Nevada Reno, he was signed after draft. Has great arm, was Double A All-Star this year.

UPDATE: Official press release:

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have purchased the contract of catcher Konrad Schmidt from Double-A Mobile, according to D-backs' interim General Manager Jerry Dipoto.

Schmidt, 26, hit .315 (124-for-394) with 48 runs scored, 30 doubles, 3 triples, 11 home runs and 65 RBI in 107 games with the BayBears this season. Over parts of 4 seasons in the D-backs farm system, he posted a .298 batting average (403-for-1353) with 164 runs scored, 90 doubles, 5 triples, 29 home runs and 180 RBI. Schmidt will wear No. 33 and will make his Major League debut with the D-backs.

In a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster for Schmidt, the team designated right-handed pitcher Cesar Valdez for assignment.
