Cardinals Free Safety Hamza Abdullah Trades Food For Faith

This is a fantastic and interesting story from Darren Urban at AZ Cardinals.com about Hamza Abdullah, a devote Muslim, dealing with the Ramadan tradition of day-time fasting (food and drink) during Cardinals training camp.

↵

Look, I can barely go two hours without stuffing something down my pie hole (which literally these days is frequently stuffed with pie). I can't imagine trying to make it through training camp while only eating during hours of darkness.

↵

An even more impressive sign of faith is not drinking throughout the day.

↵

Back in my younger years I was a fairly active and fit dude. Not a pro athlete of course, but I could get a good run on. Drinking water after exercising was always kind of important to me. To prevent dying, I assumed.

↵

But Hamza (and his brother Husain who plays for the Vikings) have somehow got it all figured out.

↵

"Honestly, it is more mental than physical," Abdullah told AZ Cardinals.com. "It may seem like it is hard to go 30 days without eating or drinking but it's actually a lot easier than you think."

↵

We'll just have to trust him on that. Seems pretty hard to me.

Note: Hamza has written a couple of blog posts over at Revenge of the Birds. Check it out.
