Flushing, NY (Sports Network) – Adam LaRoche homered twice and drove in a career-high six runs and Daniel Hudson had a successful Arizona debut in a 14-1 drubbing of the Mets in the rubber match of a three-game series.
Hudson (1-0), acquired when the Diamondbacks sent Edwin Jackson to the White Sox on Friday, gave up a mere three hits, one walk and one run over a career- high eight innings and also drove in a pair of runs with his first big-league hit in the fifth inning. The 23-year-old right-hander also struck out four.
Stephen Drew and John Hester added solo home runs, while Justin Upton went 2- for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 17 games in the win.
Jonathon Niese (7-5) was touched for seven runs — six earned — on seven hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings for New York, which ended up splitting its six-game homestand.
