Amar'e Stoudemire: Minister Of Information

Amar'e Stoudemire, new New York Knick, in his own words.

"(Amar'e) Stoudemire, one of the top free agents available this summer, on Monday turned his three-day recruiting visit to New York into an informal news conference to announce he has chosen to sign with the Knicks.

"He accepted a five-year contract worth $99.7 million. The deal can not be officially announced until Thursday, when the NBA's moratorium on signings and trades is lifted."

"Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf became a familiar face in homes around the world from the start of the war. As information minister, he was the regime's mouthpiece, called on to give an upbeat assessment of events at the same time the world's media showed the noose tightening around Baghdad.

"His daily televised briefings caused amusement and confusion to journalists and audiences across the world because of his forthright and often skewed view of the conflict."

"Lying is forbidden in Iraq. President Saddam Hussein will tolerate nothing but truthfulness as he is a man of great honor and integrity. Everyone is encouraged to speak freely of the truths evidenced in their eyes and hearts."

"'I've been thinking about New York since the 2002 draft,' (Stoudemire) said of his draft year, when the Suns selected him ninth overall."

"Do you agree that Mike D'Antoni not emphasizing defense set you back?

"I think so. With us not really focused defensively and not teaching defense a lot of the finger pointing was towards me saying that I wasn't a good defensive player but I just was never taught defensive strategy so it really was kind of unfair to put the blame on me. I think over time, it shows now that we are a better defensive team, we got guys that can play defense and my defense is not really that bad."

"On Sunday, D'Antoni wanted to assure Stoudemire that he believes he is a terrific player and that he's 100 percent behind the Knicks' push to bring him to New York, sources said.

"Stoudemire has told those close to him that much of the tension between the two was his fault, citing his youth and immaturity when he entered the league fresh out of high school. Stoudemire has said he's matured to the point that he now realizes D'Antoni was only trying to make him a better player, according to sources."

"They are nowhere near the airport ..they are lost in the desert...they can not read a compass...they are retarded."

"Wolf asks, 'What do you say to those people who are saying you are playing the way you are playing just to get the max contract and then you will just relax. What do you say to those people?'

"'I would say they're simply retarded and that they haven't been watching my career at all since I've been in the league.

"'I've been improving every single year even after the all-star break I've been improving so if they think I am just playing for a contract they are out of their minds.'"
