Phoenix Mercury forward Candice Dupree was named the Western Conference Player of the Week. Here's the official statement from Phoenix Mercury website:
Mercury forward Candice Dupree was named the WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week presented by Kia Motors for games played Monday, July 5 through Sunday, July 11, the league office announced today.
Dupree earns the third Player of the Week honor of her career after leading the Mercury to a win over Los Angeles on July 6 with a season-high 25 points on 11-of-17 (.647) shooting and a game-high 12 rebounds. The double-double was her fourth of the season and 32nd of her career.
Recording its second consecutive victory with the 98-89 win over the Sparks, Phoenix improved to 7-11 on the season and is in second place in the Western Conference.
Acquired from Chicago in the offseason, Dupree has transitioned nicely to the Mercury’s high-octane offense highlighted by her performance in the first two weeks of July. She has recorded season highs in scoring in three consecutive outings this month averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds in three games. The league’s leader in field goal percentage (.654) shot 69% (29-of-42) from the field in that stretch.
Averaging 14.9 points (13th in the WNBA) and 7.9 rebounds (9th) this season, Dupree was selected to the USA Basketball Women’s National Team for the Stars at the Sun contest last weekend. In her debut with the national team on Saturday she scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds in just 23 minutes of action.
Dupree will lead the Mercury against the league-leading Seattle Storm on Wednesday at US Airways Center. Tipoff is schedule for 12:30 p.m. and will be televised on FOX Sports Arizona. The game will be re-aired at 7 p.m. that night.
