Andrew Pentis of MLB.com reports that Texas A&M pitcher Barret Loux, whom the D-backs picked sixth overall in this year’s draft, has failed the team’s physical.
RHP Loux had surgery in 2009 to eliminate bone chips in his throwing elbow, but it is not clear if the failed physical is related to that surgery.
It remains to be seen what repercussions this will have in contract negotiations, however. The D-backs have signed their first draft picks every year since 2000.
Should the team decline to sign him, they would receive the seventh pick in the 2011 draft as compensation. Loux and the team have until August 16 to work out an agreement.
