Diana Taurasi continued to rake in accolades off the court with her nomination for two ESPY awards. Up for Best Female Athlete and Best WNBA Player, the reigning MVP gets a chance to add to her collection. And as a bonus, she gets to hang out with host Seth Meyers and angle for a SNL guest appearance.
Taurasi earns the nomination after leading the Phoenix Mercury to the WNBA Championship in 2009, the franchise's second title in three years, and after leading the league in scoring for the third time in the last four seasons. Arguably the best player in the world, Tauarsi is a two-time Olympic gold medalist (2004, 2008) and has led the Euroleague in scoring the past two seasons while playing for Spartak Moscow.
Should Taurasi win this year, it will not be the first ESPY on her mantle. The No. 1 pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft and 2004 WNBA Rookie of the Year has twice won the ESPY for Best Female College Athlete (2003, 2004) and was also named Best Female Athlete in 2004 after leading the University of Connecticut to three straight NCAA National Championships and winning the Naismith Player of the Year Award in two consecutive seasons (2003, 2004).
Fans all over the world have the opportunity to vote for ESPY award winners by logging onto espn.com/espys or via the ESPN Facebook page at facebook.com/espn.
Winners of this year's awards will be announced during the ESPY Awards show hosted by Saturday Night Live's Seth Myers, which will be televised on ESPN live from the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 14 at 6 p.m. PT.
