The Diamondbacks are finally going to retire Luis Gonzalez's jersey.
The ceremony will take place before Arizona's August 7 game against the San Diego Padres. There will be a Gonzo bobblehead giveaway that night as well.
``We have a rich history since our inception and our players who played a large role in our success deserve our recognition,'' said Hall, who called Gonzalez ``our franchise's most popular player.''
This is a great honor for Luis Gonzalez, who will be the first Diamondback in history to have his number retired. Jackie Robinson's 42 was immortalized earlier this season in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Luis Gonzalez was a five-time all star for the D-backs, having a career season in 2001 when he hit 57 home runs for the eventual World Champions.
