The Arizona Diamondbacks completed a trade with those New York Yankees that brings in first baseman Juan Miranda and sends right-handed pitcher Scott Allen packing. The D-backs have a gaping hole at first with Adam LaRoche's option declined and they clearly are hoping the the 27-year-old can emerge from the shadow of Mark Teixeira and make something of himself in the desert.
Miranda has a .253 average (21-for-83) with 11 runs, three doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI in 46 games over parts of three seasons with the Yankees.
Allen, 19, compiled a 5-4 record and 3.95 ERA (42 ER in 95.2 IP) with 29 walks and 95 strikeouts over 28 games (16 starts) over parts of two seasons in the D-backs organization.
Young pitching prospect for a backup first baseman. Seems about right.
