Both Jack Magruder of Fox Sports Arizona and Steve Gilbert of MLB.com are reporting that the Diamondbacks will remove the interim tag from Kirk Gibson and keep him on as manager. His deal is reported to be for two deals.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are expected to make an official announcement of their new (old) manager on Monday, October 4.
Kevin Towers, the new GM, was very high on Gibson when he was announced a few weeks ago. The two planned to spend more time together on the team's final road trip of the season. That apparently went well.
Gibson has made it a priority to change the team's mentality and character since taking over in July from A.J. Hinch. In recent conversations he's said the team has made progress on that front. Just watching the Diamonback play under his command you can see more effort and competitive desire despite the losing record on the season.
Former interim GM Jerry Dipoto, who was passed over in favor of Towers, will reportedly also be staying on as the VP of Scouting and Player Personnel.
