Update: Diamondbacks' Kirk Gibson Auctions Memorabilia For Charity

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson talked Tuesday about why he is putting up memorabilia from his big home run for the Dodgers in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series.

That includes the bat and his unwashed L.A. uniform from that night. He said he was ready to let the stuff go.

Proceeds from the auction of his MVP trophy from the Series will go to his foundation to support Michigan State atheltics, and also the high schools where his parents taught in Michigan.

Gibson, who doesn’t have the ball from the home run, said he didn’t need the money for any reason, telling the reporter who asked that it was “an inappropriate question.”
