The Phoenix Suns' Channing Frye was diagnosed with an enlarged heart on Thursday during a routine medical checkup.

Phoenix Suns forward Channing Frye is out indefinitely after Dr. Tim Byrne diagnosed him with an enlarged heart, the team announced Thursday. The problem was found during a routine preseason physical exam.

Said President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby in a statement:

"Nothing is more important to us than the health and well-being of our players. Channing and his family have the full support of our organization. His health is our primary concern and we are committed to helping him in any way he needs."

The team will monitor Frye's health and then reevaluate his situation in December, meaning that would be the earliest the forward returns. He won't participate in basketball activities in the meantime.

Frye averaged 10.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in 2011-12 and he was still recovering from a shoulder injury that kept him out of the final two games of last season. Markieff Morris and Luis Scola will see increased minutes, and Michael Beasley could also see time at the four spot.
