The Brazilian Blur might be returning to Phoenix, Leandro Barbosa said. The Suns are now an option to land the scoring guard for the upcoming season according to recent a interview.
Barbosa is a free agent this year and was a fan favorite when he played for the Suns between 2003 and 2010. He averaged 12.6 points a game, and posted his best year in 2006-07 when he scored 18.1 points per game and won the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year Award. He has played the last two years for the Toronto Raptors and the Indiana Pacers.
In an interview with a Brazilian blog, Barbosa said that returning to the Suns could be an option. The interview is in Portuguese of course, but luckily Google Translate can attempt to provide a little insight.
I'm talking, among others, with the Phoenix Suns franchise that have a history, a life there, with the Brooklyn Nets, we tried harder and the Los Angeles Lakers - is very hot with the staff there too. The Steve Nash texted me so I go there, even. When I was in the Olympics this conversation happened pretty strong, but then they signed with another wing and then cooled a bit. They have many owners, and if they would hire me to take one of the cast. It's early, I have to wait.
Barbosa left the Suns in 2010 after injuries and depth limited his minutes in the rotation. If the Suns bring Barbosa back it would be for a backup role as the team added guards Goran Dragic and Kendall Marshall in the offseason.

The Phoenix Suns are about to embark on their first season without Steve Nash in a very long time, and the folks over at ESPN don't feel too bullish about their chances. As part of their 2012-2013 season forecast, ESPN projects the Suns to finish 14th in the Western Conference with a 30-52 record.
Last season, the Suns finished with a .500 record, but they no longer have the services of Nash, one of the game's top point guards. Now, Phoenix is focused on a core led by new acquisitions Goran Dragic, Michael Beasley, Wesley Johnson and Luis Scola, plus incumbents like Marcin Gortat and Channing Frye.
ESPN isn't buying the new roster as a good thing, though, projecting Phoenix as one of the league's worst teams. Only the Sacramento Kings are projected to be worse, and that's only by a single game, as their projected record is 29-53.

Phoenix Suns center Jermaine O'Neal is among a contingent of NBA players heading to Germany over the offseason to get special knee treatment, as Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic reports. The treatment was popularized around the league by Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, who had a strong 2011-12 season after getting the procedure done last year.
According to Coro, O'Neal is among a group of players heading to Germany that also includes Clippers forward Grant Hill, who left the Suns to join L.A. a few months ago. They'll be undergoing a procedure known as Regenokine, which Coro describes below:
The treatment takes five days and begins with having blood drawn, incubated, heated and spun into a centrifuge to make an orange serum. That is injected into the arthritic joint daily for five days.
Athletes have been heading to Dusseldorf, Germany, to have the procedure done by its inventor, Dr. Peter Wehling. The treatment is extremely expensive, but it's been used by top athletes around the U.S. recently, including baseball player Alex Rodriguez and golfer Fred Couples in addition to a variety of NBA players.

If the Oklahoma City Thunder's James Harden becomes a restricted free agent next summer, the Phoenix Suns are a team that will look to acquire the reigning Sixth Man of the Year.
According to Paola Bolvin of the Arizona Republic, Harden, who starred at Arizona State, still has great affection for the area and his mom lives in the Valley.
With the Thunder recently extending the contract of Serge Ibaka, the Thunder will have a decision to make in regards to Harden. The other young members of their nucleus - Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Kendrick Perkins and Ibaka - are all locked up longterm. Depending on how far into the luxury tax the small-market Thunder are willing to go to re-sign Harden, he may be there for the picking if given the right deal in the right situation.
Harden is regarded as one of the top shooting guards in the league even though he comes off the bench for the Thunder. An opportunity to start and come back to Arizona could be something Harden would consider doing.

Veteran center Jermaine O'Neal has signed a free agent contract with the Phoenix Suns, according to a report from Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic. O'Neal has spent the last two seasons with the Boston Celtics, and will hope for a career renaissance in the desert after a disappointing performance cut short by injury this last year.
O'Neal, 6'11, 255, will turn 34 in October and will have to overcome wrist and knee issues that sidelined him with the Celtics in 2011-12 for 58 games. He came back in time for the Playoffs though, and his performance there was highlighed in Game 1 of the first round against the New York Knicks, where he scored 12 points and added 5 blocks. Boston beat the Knicks but lost to the eventual Eastern Conference champions, the Miami Heat, in the second round, in five games.
As SB Nation's Mike Prada points out, "the Suns have a history of taking injury-prone players and making them healthy, thanks to their pristine medical and training staffs. Injury-prone players such as Grant Hill and many more have rediscovered their health and their step while playing for the Suns."

Phoenix Suns fans everywhere will have a new voice calling the action whenever the team takes the court. The Suns have announced a five-year deal with Steve Albert as their play-by-play man. Albert has made a name for himself through Showtime boxing matches over the years, but he has some NBA experience with the Hornets, Knicks and Nets. He most recently worked as the Hornets' play-by-play guy in 2005.
"The goal is to be informative and entertaining," Albert said to AZ Central. "Above it all, I try to be honest. I have respect for the viewers. Fans are smart. You just can't fool people and you shouldn't try."
Albert is eager and excited to get to work in Phoenix.
"It's really like a dream job, not only announcing for the Suns and being back in the NBA but to be moving to one of the greatest locales on Earth," Albert said. "It was just time for a change and I really wanted to get back into the NBA, if possible, but it's tough. There are only 30 TV jobs. I really feel honored and privileged to be in the league and with the Suns."

After several days of speculation and hangups with league rules, the Phoenix Suns have completed a trade that involves the New Orleans Hornets and Minnesota Timberwolves. As a part of the deal, the Suns send center Robin Lopez, forward Hakim Warrick and cash to the New Orleans Hornets and the 2014 second round pick they acquired from the Lakers to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Suns then receiver in return swingman Wesley Johnson and a protected first round pick from the Timberwolves and the contracts of Brad Miller and Jerome Dyson.
Johnson was the fourth pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. The 25-year-old owns career averages of 7.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 144 games (127 starts). Johnson, who boasts a 7-1 wingspan, just concluded a successful Las Vegas Summer League in which he averaged 20.5 points while shooting 48.3 percent from the floor, including 45.0 percent from three-point range. A three-year collegiate performer at Iowa State (2006-08) and Syracuse (2009-10), Johnson averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, and was a finalist for the Naismith Trophy (NCAA Player of the Year) in his lone season with the Orange.
This deal gives Phoenix additional flexibility for the future. It leaves them with about $14 million dollars in cap space for the 2013-14 season.
As a result of moving Lopez, Phoenix will now seek a backup center to starter Marcin Gortat.

The proposed three-team trade that involves the Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Hornets and Minnesota Timberwolves still is sitting in limbo. The move that would bring a draft pick and Wesley Johnson to the Suns hit some hangups with league rules. Bright Side of the Sun previously explained that the holdup was based in the salary cap situation of the Hornets.
However, in a tweet from reporter Paul Coro, it appears that the likelihood of the trade been completed has increased.
There'll be no resolution on the Lopez/Warrick trade today but the 3-way deal's chances have improved. The hang-up isn't NO's cap situation.

The Suns know where they'll be playing next season.
10 months ago Update 0 comments
It was reported that there were still 'significant issues' with the proposed three-team trade between the Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Hornets and Minnesota Timberwovles for Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick, but according to SB Nation's Bright Side of the Sun, the deal does not comply with the new NBA collective bargaining agreement, meaning it, in it's current state, is a void deal.
Here is Bright Side of the Sun's Alex Laugan with the explanation:
After absorbing [Brad] Miller's contract, signing Ryan Anderson and using Bird Rights to match on Eric Gordon, the Hornets are now "over the cap" meaning that any trade they execute must be close in salaries (within 150%, plus 100k). In other words, the Hornets can no longer participate in lopsided trades. This rule was specifically designed to discourage teams from exceeding the collectively-bargained salary cap by making it harder to add salary. The Hornets are now in that boat.
This means that the Hornets cannot take on Lopez AND Warrick ($9 million total) unless they can combine [Brad] Miller's expiring contract ($5 million) with other players on their roster, which is also against the rules.
That is not good news. Hopefully the Suns can figure out a way to still make this deal happen, because it was going to be a good one for Phoenix.
Laugan continues that there is still a possibility it could work, listing three possibilities to make the deal work:
- In the proposed trade, the Hornets must send out salaries ranging from $5.9-$13.6 million in order to take on $9 million in new salary (Robin Lopez for $5 million, and Hakim Warrick for $4 million).
- A traded player cannot be traded back to the same team in the same league year, meaning Miller cannot be traded back to Minny until next July 1.
- Any "cap" team cannot trade a player "for two months after receiving the player in trade, if the trade aggregates the player's salary with the salaries of other player", according to Larry Coon's cbafaq.com. In other words, Brad Miller can be traded but only BY HIMSELF.
Should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

It was reported that the Phoenix Suns had a trade agreement in place that involved the New Orleans Hornets and Minnesota Timberwolves in which Phoenix would trade Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick away and receive Wesley Johnson, a first round pick and Brad Miller, whom they would waive.
However, as Paul Coro noted on Azcentral.com, "significant issues remain" before the trade can be completed.
Apparently there are league rules to comply with, which have not been described. Lon Babby reportedly told a group fo fans that it is about "50/50" that the trade will happen.
If it does not go through, Warrick will of course remain a Sun, and so likely would Lopez, but on the team's $4 million qualifying offer. Lopez would become an unrestricted free agent after next season.

A three-way trade between the Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Hornets and Minnesota Timberwolves has apparently occurred that will send Wesley Johnson from Minnesota to Phoenix and Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick to New Orleans. Here are the details of the trade from Brett Martel of the Associated Press.

After it looked like the Phoenix Suns were going to have a quiet rest of an offseason, they have made some noise, as they are rumored to have a trade in the works that would move restricted free agent center Robin Lopez and forward Hakim Warrick in exchange for a first round pick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Wojnarowski tweeted some of the details:
Hornets, Suns, Wolves are nearing agreement on a 3-way deal that would send Robin Lopez to the Hornets in a sign-and-trade, sources tell Y!
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 24, 2012
Along with Lopez, Suns would send Hakim Warrick to Hornets. Minny would send Wesley Johnson and a 1st round pick to the Suns, sources say.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 24, 2012
Warrick became expendable with the acquisition of Michael Beasley, as the team had a glut of power forwards. Lopez shows flashes of being a promising player in 2010, but became inconsistent after coming back from a back injury.
Johnson was the fourth pick in the 2010 draft and is a 6-7, athletic wing player. He has been disappointing thus far in his career, but gives the team even more athleticism and youth, which have been the team's two main goals this offseason -- get younger and more athletic.

According to Arizona Sports' Vince Marotta the Phoenix Suns and free agent guard Shannon Brown have agreed to terms on a new deal, keeping him in the desert for the foreseeable future with a new two-year deal.
The 26 year old Brown played in 59 of 66 games for the Phoenix Suns in 2011-12 averaging a career-high 11.0 points per contest while grabbing 2.7 rebounds. In the 19 games that he started for Phoenix, Brown averaged 15.8 points and 3.7 rebounds, while shooting over 40 percent from downtown.
The Suns were actively searching for some new blood at the guard position before eventually settling with Brown. Phoenix had already signed restricted free agent Eric Gordon to a four- year, $58 million offer sheet that was unfortunately matched by the New Orleans Hornets. Phoenix also had O.J. Mayo for a visit before he ended up with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Phoenix Suns officially introduced point guard Goran Dragic to the media on Thursday afternoon. Following the departure Steve Nash to the Lakers, the Suns were left scrambling to find a new man to run the show on offense. Along with first round pick Kendall Marshall, Dragic is expected to see most of the ball handling duties for the foreseeable future.
Dragic, a 6-3, 190-pound guard, returns to the team who drafted him after a season-plus with the Houston Rockets, where he developed into a legitimate starting point guard in the NBA. Dragic entered 2011-12 as a back-up, but started 28 of 66 games, including the season's final 26 contests after starter Kyle Lowry was sidelined by an illness. In nearly half a season as a starter, Dragic averaged 18.0 points, 8.4 assists and 1.82 steals.
The Suns are a team that will look drastically different from the one last season, but they'll be a fun one to say the least. As SB Nation Arizona's Cody Ulm wrote this week, this Phoenix team is going to be the most entertaining one to watch in years.

Grant Hill will be leaving the Phoenix Suns to join the Los Angeles Clippers according to various sources, including Sports 620 KTAR in Phoenix's John Gambadoro.
It was already known that Hill, a free agent forward, was headed elsewhere and most likely to a contender, but it was originally thought to be the Los Angeles Lakers to join with Steve Nash.
But the Clippers look to have snuck in and stole a forward who can still guard two positions, hit the mid-range jumper and serve as a veteran presence in the locker room.

O.J. Mayo is headed to the Dallas Mavericks. He tweeted the news earlier today.
I will be signing with dallas! #Mavsnation
— OJ Mayo (@JuiceMayo32) July 17, 2012
Mayo really helps out Dallas in easing the losses of this offseason, and with a new core of Darren Collison, Dahntay Jones, Chris Kaman, Elton Brand and Mayo, the Mavericks should have plenty of pieces around Dirk Nowitzki to contend in the playoffs once again.
It appeared that the biggest impediment toward Phoenix landing Mayo was (what else?) money. Mayo wanted a lot, the Suns weren't willing to give him that much.
OJ Mayo came to town but Suns made no contract offer. He wants 8 mill + a year and for Phx to be interested that price has to come down.
— John Gambadoro (@Gambo620) July 15, 2012
It was wise for Phoenix not to break the bank on a guard that still has yet to tap into his vast potential. In his fourth season in the league, Mayo's production remained static, while his shooting remained pretty mediocre at 40% from the field. Not really a guy you break the bank to sign in the offseason.
Phoenix continues their hunt for a shooting guard, a position where they are still seriously deficient.

The Phoenix Suns officially signed first-round pick Kendall Marshall to his rookie deal, the club announced via twitter on Monday.
Marshall's contract kept him out of the start of summer league games but he's been on the bench cheering on his teammates as the contract situation was resolved.
"I guess they didn't have his contract completely done yet. We expect him any day," Suns assistant coach and summer league head coach Dan Majerle said in the Arizona Republic on Sunday.
That day will be Monday as the former North Carolina point guard gets to start to showcase the pure point guard abilities that made him the 13th overall pick and the first to take a crack at the now-departed Steve Nash's spot as the team's lead distributor.

The acquisition of Luis Scola could negatively impact Michael Beasley.
10 months ago Update 0 comments
The Phoenix Suns made a bit of a surprising move on Sunday, winning the bid on forward Luis Scola. While he will be an important part to the roster, there are still areas of need to address. According to the latest reports out of Phoenix, the team hopes to keep guard Shannon Brown around. If that option fails, they're also expected to make a move on Courtney Lee.
Here's the latest:
Suns still interested in bringing back Shannon Brown and have some interest in Courtney Lee as well
— John Gambadoro (@Gambo620) July 15, 2012
As for Brown, he showed moments of promise last season, although his shot-happy tendencies became frustrating for the fan base. Brown appeared in 59 games last season with Phoenix, averaging 11 points-per-game while hitting 42% of his shot attempts.
As for Lee, he spent the last two years with the Rockets and averaged 11 points a night. Given the wacky situation in Houston right now, it's anyone's guess whether or not Lee returns. The main reason he could be of interest to the Suns: he's a 40% shooter from behind the 3-point line.
These are just rumors as of now, but it does not seem like the Suns are anywhere close to wrapping up their offseason.

Luis Scola, who was released by the Houston Rockets via the new amnesty clause earlier this week, has been awarded to the Phoenix Suns, according to a report. The Suns already have a pretty full roster as far as forwards and post players go, but there is no denying that Scola is a very talented player who can be a big contributor on the offensive end.
Here is the latest from Marc Stein of ESPN.
The NBA's 30 teams have just been notified that Phoenix has won waiver auction for Luis Scola
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 15, 2012
Scola, 32, has really emerged into a fine player the last few seasons in Houston. He averaged 15.5 points and 6.4 rebounds in 2011-12, which are right on par with his career averages. He's a physical player who knows how to use his body, although his defense is not great.
SB Nation Arizona's Seth Pollack is fine with the move to acquire Scola, although he's a bit unsure of how everything will come together with Channing Frye, Robin Lopez, Marcin Gortat and Hakim Warrick all projected to be on the team next season. Everything should work itself out in the end.
To make room for Scola, Phoenix has reportedly amnestied Josh Childress.

From an outsiders perspective, the newly forged partnership of Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant with the Los Angeles Lakers must be an appetizing sight, especially if you are an aging free agent still looking for his first NBA Championship. Such is that case for Grant Hill, who according to Sports 620 KTAR's John Gambadoro is leaning towards moving to Tinsel Town.
Per Sports 620 KTAR sports radio talk show host John Gambadoro on Twitter:

On paper, the Lakers have to be seen as a serious contender for the title next year with the players they already have, but with the addition of a solid role player like Hill would likely be welcomed in L.A. Still, that would be a very aged group, which the Lakers tried back in 2003-04 with guys like Karl Malone and Gary Peyton, which led to a loss in the playoffs.

The Phoenix Suns have had very little go right this offseason. After losing a franchise player in Steve Nash and likely losing out on Eric Gordon to the Hornet, they are reportedly considering a bid for amnestied forward Elton Brand. While he would likely provide a boost to the Suns' front court, many feel he is destined to head to the Dallas Mavericks should they offer him.
Here's the latest from David Aldridge of NBA.com.
League sources indicated that at least three teams with room, the Cavaliers, Bucks and Raptors, would not be making bids on Brand. The Suns and Hornets were contemplating making a bid, according to other league sources. But teams are leery of making bids if Brand doesn't want to play there.
Brand is hardly the player he once was, and his physical condition and poor play on defense make him more of a role player at this stage in his career. For a Suns team that is likely set to rebuild in the coming years, Brand doesn't make a ton of sense. And if he doesn't really have his heart into playing for Phoenix, it makes no sense to even consider pursuing him.
Brand averaged 11 points and 7.2 rebounds in 60 games last season with the 76ers.

Free agent veteran Grant Hill has been rather mum this offseason about where he would like to continue his career, though many have suspected that a return to the desert would fit him well. But with the departure of Steve Nash to Los Angeles some have feared that Hill won't want to play here without his long time friend.
Well that isn't necessarily the case as Hill was in Las Vegas to watch some of the action at the summer league as well as team USA practice, noting that he still has a desire to play, just taking his time going through his options.
"I am a free agent and I do have a desire to play," he told NBA TV. "I'm just sort of sorting through it, trying to figure it out. [I] definitely have options. We'll have to wait and see."
Some of the teams Hill is allegedly supposed to have interest in is Miami, Oklahoma City and the L.A. Lakers, all of which are seen as top contenders heading into the 2012-13 season.
"You want to win. You want to play," said the 18-year veteran. "You watch the (NBA) Finals this past year. You see Miami. You see what they accomplished. You want to experience that. I've been lucky to experience it in the Olympics and in college twice. But you know there's a lot of variables involved with winning. Everyone can now can say 'Oh, Miami will definitely win' but it's a tough road to get to a championship."
As for the Suns, team president Lon Babby would certainly love to have him:
"He's obviously welcome back here if we can have him back," said Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby. "He would be a great asset for us with the group we're bringing in but he's got to do what's best for him."

— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 11, 2012
Hornets now have 3 days to match EGordon offer sheet. They definitely will but early indications I get is they'll make PHX wait full 3 days
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 11, 2012
Because the Hornets have committed to keeping the disgruntled Gordon rather than trading him, the Suns submitted the offer sheet, which kills any chance at a sign-and-trade deal. The only way Phoenix ends up with Gordon is if the Hornets reverse their public stance on matching that offer sheet to Gordon. It wouldn't be the most surprising turn of events, as Gordon has indicated he isn't happy with the way the organization has treated him.
If the Suns aren't able to keep Gordon, this probably means they'll go after another shooting guard, as they're critically low on depth at that position. O.J. Mayo has been a name long-circulated around as Phoenix's next target, and the Suns could use a solid two-guard to pair with Goran Dragic to make his transition easier to being the new starting point of the organization.
Here is the official statement from the Suns organization on signing Gordon to this offer sheet.
The Phoenix Suns have signed restricted free agent guard Eric Gordon to an offer sheet, the club announced today. Under the terms of the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, the New Orleans Hornets have three days to match the Suns’ offer and retain his rights.
"We are excited that Eric Gordon wants to be a Phoenix Sun, and are gratified by his choice to play here," said Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby.
The 6-3, 215-pound Gordon is a four-year NBA veteran who has established himself as one of the league’s premier scorers. Just 24 years old, Gordon owns career NBA averages of 18.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 205 games (190 starts). An All-NBA Rookie Team selection in 2009, Gordon increased his scoring average in each of his first three seasons before playing just nine games in an injury-plagued, lockout-shortened campaign in 2011-12. The centerpiece of the Hornets’ trade of Chris Paul, Gordon averaged 20.6 points in nine games for New Orleans last season.
A career 45.0 percent shooter from the floor, including 37.0 percent from three-point range, Gordon is an efficient scorer whose 18.2-point career average has come on 13.5 field goal attempts per game. In Gordon’s only appearance in Phoenix last season, the Indiana product scored 20 points against the Suns and hit the game-winning 20-foot jump shot with 4.2 seconds remaining in the season opener at US Airways Center on Dec. 26.

ESPN's NBA insider Marc Stein has all the latst news, notes and updates when it comes to the rumor mill, and the mill has spit out another nugget of information for you to take at your liking, this time about Eric Gordon not coming to the Phoenix Suns
Per ESPN's NBA insider Marc Stein via Twitter:
If Hornets match PHX offer sheet to Eric Gordon, as they've vowed, desert sources say this is definite: OJ Mayo will be courted hard by Suns
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 11, 2012
There is one definite that is for sure, that if one player does not make the Phoenix Suns squad (such as Eric Gordon) due to a contract dispute, trade negotiation, injury or whatever the case may be, the Phoenix Suns will speak with another player with similar talents to take the position that said player (Gordon) was going to take.
Mayom the fourth year guard out of USC, averaged 12.6 points and 2.6 assists per game last year for the Memphis Grizzlies. He started zero of the 66 games he saw time in.

The Phoenix Suns have been in a holding pattern in free agency, as they have been waiting through the NBA's obligatory moratorium on actual signing of contracts. They made a four-year maximum offer sheet to restricted free agent shooting guard Eric Gordon, who has made it clear in the media that he does not want to return to the New Orleans Hornets.
Nonetheless, the latest report, as tweeted by ESPN's Ric Bucher, the Hornets fully intend on matching the offer and bringing Gordon back.
Source: Hornets not scared off by Gordon's comments, will match Suns' 4-year, $58million offer and plan to keep him. No S&T.
— Ric Bucher (@RicBucher) July 11, 2012
It would be quite disappointing for Suns fans to lose out on a player that could be future star. If the Hornets do match, the Suns will then turn towards other players, perhaps Shannon Brown, who played in Phoenix last season.

The Phoenix Suns are moving on from the Steve Nash era. Now they have to secure the remaining players they have on their basketball team and hope they don't get poached by any of the notable names out there.
Suns center Robin Lopez is one of the more under-the-radar names out there getting hawked. There's a bit of a premium on big man centers, so even though Lopez probably isn't the greatest producer under the rim (he averaged only about 5.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 14 minutes of action a game), there's always going to be a market for players that are tall.
Interestingly, the Portland Trail Blazers (who just drafted Meyers Leonard) are the ones who have been pursuing Lopez as of late, and might just end up throwing an offer sheet to them.
Suns C Robin Lopez has been contacted by #Blazers during this moratorium, Lopez tells CSNNW. So far, that's the extent. Lopez, 7-1 is a RFA.

Lopez is a restricted free agent, so the Suns have the potential to match any new deal the Trail Blazers throw out there. It might depend on how much the Blazers are willing to spend.

As free agent Grant Hill continues to weight his options, Sports Radio Talk Show host on Sports 620 John Gambadoro brings us the latest on where teams stand on the NBA veteran.
Per John Gambadoro on Twitter:
No decision yet by Grant Hill, Suns obviously want him back and believe he either plays for them or retires. But Lakers must be intriguing.
— John Gambadoro (@Gambo620) July 6, 2012
With Nash now in Tinsel Town, the long time friends could team up out West. Still, there are other options on the table as well.
Toronto also very intereted in Hill and could pay him the most money but I don't see that happening.
— John Gambadoro (@Gambo620) July 6, 2012
Hill would likely want to go to a place where he is most likely to win a championship, and Toronto just isn't that place right now.
As for other Suns moves, Gambadoro also has an update on the status of Eric Gordon.
If NO matches offer sheet for Gordon which they apparently will then Suns will turn attention to keeping Shannon Brown.

The Phoenix Suns made a big statement when they offered Eric Gordon a maxed out contract, and the front office now has every intention of signing the talented shooting guard. Gordon is a restricted free agent meaning his current team, the New Orleans Hornets, have the right to match the offer sheet presented by Phoenix.
The Hornets, who acquired Gordon in the deal that sent Chris Paul to L.A. last winter, have every intention of trying to keep him around. And if they can't, they'll hope for a sign-and-trade deal to get some kind of compensation back. If these latest statements from Gordon are any indication though, he won't consider signing with New Orleans.
Here's the latest from Ric Bucher of ESPN.
"Phoenix just showed a lot more interest, overall, and definitely in how they negotiated," Gordon said. "I don't know what New Orleans' plans are for me. There are no negotiations right now."
GM Dell Demps declined to comment on Gordon's remarks, but a league source said the Hornets are fully committed to matching the Suns' offer sheet. The Hornets identified Gordon as their most talented player even after they drafted Kentucky power forward Anthony Davis with the No. 1 pick and plan to retain him as, if nothing else, an asset.
That the Hornets drafted Duke guard Austin Rivers with the 10th pick also makes Gordon question exactly what their plans are for him.
"They drafted another shooting guard, a combo guard like me, which tells me they have another plan," Gordon said.

The Phoenix Suns were looking to lock up point guard Eric Gordon for the future until the New Orleans Hornets matched their offer for the restricted free agent, Now the Houston Rockets are looking into nabbing another PG from Phoenix as they are reportedly interested in Suns guard Aaron Brooks.
Per Hoops World's Alex Kennedy:
After trading Kyle Lowry, the Houston Rockets are searching for a starting point guard. While they have offered restricted free agent Jeremy Lin a four-year, $30 million offer sheet, Houston is also considering several other options. The Rockets will meet with restricted free agent Aaron Brooks this weekend, according to sources close to the situation. After signing Goran Dragic and drafting Kendall Marshall, it's unlikely the Phoenix Suns will match a large offer sheet for Brooks.
Brooks played for the Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association during the 2011-12 season, though remained a restricted free agent with Phoenix. But with the return of Dragic and draftee Kendall Marshall Brooks' spot on the team has become less necessary.
Brooks played his first four seasons in the league with Houston before being traded to the Suns.

Just when Eric Gordon thought he was going to get away from the New Orleans Hornets and move on to be Steve Nash's replacement with the Phoenix Suns, news reports on Thursday are claiming that New Orleans will indeed match the Suns offer, keeping Gordon in the Big Easy instead of the desert.
Per TNT's David Aldridge via Twitter:
Despite his request, league source reiterated tonight that Hornets will match $58M sheet Suns committed to Eric Gordon Tuesday.
— David Aldridge (@daldridgetnt) July 5, 2012
The four-year NBA veteran has averaged 18.2 points and 2.4 assists per game in his career, though played just nine games for the Hornets in the 2011-2012 season, averaging 20.3 and 3.4 assists per game during that time. He let it be known on Tuesday that "Phoenix is just where my heart is now," though it won't be where he'll be playing basketball.

The Phoenix Suns wasted approximately no time in trying to find the Steve Nash replacement. Just hours after the sign-and-trade deal put the aging point guard on the Los Angeles Lakers, his old backup received an offer and eventually agreed to terms to return to Phoenix.
Going online now: Suns move quickly after Steve Nash trade and strike four-year deal with Goran Dragic worth $34 million, sources tell ESPN
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 5, 2012
Dragic was drafted originally by the San Antonio Spurs with the 45th pick in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft, but then his rights were traded almost immediately to the Suns. After a quiet rookie year, Dragic had some huge moments in his sophomore campaign, particularly in the playoffs against the San Antonio Spurs. Dragic was then traded midway through the 2010-11 campaign to the Houston Rockets, where he ended up being the backup for Kyle Lowry. Dragic then showed what he could do as a starter when Lowry went down to injury early in the season.
Dragic provides some quick stability for Phoenix, who now figure to ride the youth movement in their quest to rebuild and redevelop the Suns franchise.
Update: Added details on the Dragic contract from Paul Coro.

Steve Nash is gone to the Los Angeles Lakers. Could Grant Hill be on his way to joining him?
Hill is also getting up there in age, and he's running out of time to try and win a championship. At 39 years old (and will turn 40 before the beginning of this season), Hill's window is short with maybe a year or two left before his production fades to irrelevance or he decides to hang it up.
It looks as if the Lakers will make their move on Hill, and it's the only team the forward will contemplate this offseason before deciding. Frank Isola tweeted this a little time ago.
Grant Hill will either join Steve Nash and the Lakers or retire, a source close to the veteran forward told me.
— Frank Isola (@FisolaNYDN) July 5, 2012
Hill would probably end up as the backup small forward behind Metta World Peace in the current rotation unless the Lakers decide to make a few more deals. He'd be a solid contributor and it'd be a great capping of a career that had been tinged with disappointment and injury if he could win a ring in his twilight years.

Suddenly, there's an opening for the Phoenix Suns starting point guard position. Could Goran Dragic be the one who fills in the hole that Steve Nash has left in Arizona?
The Suns appear to be in hot pursuit now of Dragic, and made him an offer that is reasonable while not breaking the bank. John Cambaro (who broke the original Nash trade story) had this to say on how the Suns are approaching Dragic.
Suns offer to Dragic is 4 years 30 mill, Houston offer might be for more so if he turns it down tomorrow Suns turn attention to Felton.
— John Gambadoro (@Gambo620) July 5, 2012
Dragic is becoming a hot commodity, so it's likely Phoenix might see Houston match backor give hims omething higher.
There might even be a backup option in case the Rockets make a bigger offer for him in Raymond Felton. With Felton, If they do get Felton, the Suns are getting a point guard coming off perhaps the worst season of his professional career, but they also get a guard who's more than capable of taking off weight and a top-notch training staff that should ensure Felton returns to his regular physical form.

Michael Beasley is to sign a three year deal with the Phoenix Suns, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. The deal reportedly offers the small forward $18 million over the three years.
The second overall pick in the 2008 draft, Beasley has been followed throughout his career by off-court issues, primarily ones involving marijuana. As ESPN points out, if they think he can help the team those issues aren't likely to dissuade the Phoenix front office:
Suns general manager Lance Blanks has a history of working with troubled players dating back to his time as an executive with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Blanks was instrumental in bringing volatile guard Delonte West to the Cavs and continues to have a strong relationship with him.
Beasley spent two years with Miami after he was drafted, then played two years with the Minnesota Timberwolves. In his most recent season with the Timberwolves he averaged 11.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

The Phoenix Suns sign-and-trade deal sending Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers has been confirmed, and some of the details of the deal are beginning to emerge. What the Suns gain in the deal are four draft picks: The Lakers 2013 and 2015 first round picks, and their 2013 and 2014 second round picks (via Paul Coro.) The deal is for three years and $27 million, according to Marc Spears.
The Lakers were not an early contender for Nash; he had received offers from Toronto as high as $36 million and was angling for a sign-and-trade with the New York Knicks, according to CBS Sports. The issue with that deal is reported to be Phoenix's concern that New York would not include Iman Shumpert in any deal, and the team elected to take the more sure option. That undoubtedly comes as a surprise to many; Nash himself was skeptical that he would play for Los Angeles. As he told ESPN:
"The truth is I'm a bit old school," Nash said in the June 25 interview. "For me, it would be hard to put on a Lakers jersey. That's just the way it is. You play against them so many times in the playoffs, and I just use them as an example, and I have the utmost respect for them and their organization.
"I kind of have that tendency (to try to beat the best teams), so it is strange, but as a free agent you're free to go where you want, so I'd have to consider everything regardless of the past or the future."
Nash is now trying to talk teammate Grant Hill into coming with him to Los Angeles, ESPN adds. The 39-year-old Hill is one of Nash's closest friends in the game, and Los Angeles had shown interest in Hill after he returned from the same platlet-enriching treatment that Kobe Bryant credits for his knee's recovery.

Steve Nash is headed to the Los Angeles Lakers in a sign-and-trade deal that will see the Suns receive multiple draft picks, according to reports confirmed by both ESPN and CBS Sports. The deal consists of the Lakers' 2013 and 2015 first round picks and their 2013 and 2014 second round picks, according to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic.
Given that Phoenix's alternative was to lose Nash in free agency for nothing in return, a deal with the Lakers is extremely beneficial for the team. The Toronto Raptors had been vocal about their interest in Nash, but it appears the Lakers made a better offer. The Lakers were constrained by the fact that they are well over the luxury tax, but with a sign-and-trade deal Los Angeles is able to use their $8.9 million trade exception in order to make Nash a competitive offer. The Suns are now clearly looking to the future, while the Lakers get the veteran point guard they sorely need.

The Phoenix Suns have a lot of personnel issues they have to work out in the summer of 2012. Not only do they have to worry about trying to keep Steve Nash this offseason. They might have to deal with trying to secure some new players to fill in the gaps and create a younger roster that can grow and develop in the long haul.
After securing Eric Gordon, several other prominent free agents are being pursued. One of them is Michael Beasley, formerly of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Chris Broussard has this report.
Michael Beasley is visiting with the Phoenix Suns Wednesday, marking his second meeting with the club since the free agency period began Sunday, sources said.
Beasley, an unrestricted free agent, flew to Phoenix to meet with the Suns on Wednesday. The Suns flew to Los Angeles to meet Beasley earlier this week.
Sources say the Suns are likely to make the talented small forward a contract offer before he leaves town.
Beasley has a lot of upside, but still really needs to work on his overall game to get better as a player. However, he can develop properly, he could be a pretty impressive power forward.
The Suns are also looking at Raymond Felton as a potential replacement for Nash. Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic has this report.
Felton is the next expected visitor as the Suns are still looking for a veteran point guard and it sure does not look like it will be Steve Nash. The Suns would rather not start first-round pick Kendall Marshall this season and apparently are not sold on Sebastian Telfair and Marshall as the one-two tandem.
Felton is coming off a pretty horrid season with the Portland Trail Blazers.

It's starting to look as if Steve Nash has a preference for where he wants to play next season. Nash seems to be leaning toward any sort of sign-and-trade that would land him with the New York Knicks.
However, two other suitors aren't yet conceding defeat in their pursuit of Nash. Marc Stein has this report.
Beyond any sign-and-trade talks, Mavericks remain in talks w/Steve Nash as well, sources say. I'm told Raps aren't conceding yet, either
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 4, 2012
The Toronto Raptors have really offered Nash a huge deal; the fact that he hasn't signed yet has to give you the idea that he probably won't end up there when all is said and done. The Dallas Mavericks also aren't giving up now that they've lost out on Deron Williams; they'll probably need a point guard and Nash would be a good fit with his old teammate Dirk Nowitzki.
The Knicks seem to be at the forefront, but don't count out any of the other teams as contenders to get him back.

According to a report from New York Knicks beat writer Alan Hahn, free agent point guard Steve Nash is favoring the New York Knicks, while both the Knicks and the Phoenix Suns are trying to hash out the details of a sign-and-trade deal that would send Nash to the big apple, but who for is still unknown.
New York is said to be Nash's top choice for a new team, but the fact that a trade with the Suns could be very complicated and the Knicks are a bit hesitant to give up a player like Iman Shumpert, Hahn is also reporting that the Toronto Raptors remain a team that Nash could end up with as well, though New York is putting in the most effort to get the perennial All-Star.

Gordon is just the type of player that Phoenix needs, regardless of what happens with Nash.
Why?
For the past two seasons, the team has offensively been held together by Nash. When Amare Stoudemire left and then when Jason Richardson was traded, Phoenix was left with no real scorer. It was Nash and a bunch of guys that can shoot the ball some. But not a single player you could count on to get a bucket when you really need it.

The Phoenix Suns are looking to add scorers to their roster, and their are few players in the NBA today who focus on their offensive game quite like Michael Beasley does. Despite a very high draft selection a few years ago, Beasley has failed to live up to expectations in Minnesota with the Timberwolves. Now with a few seasons under his belt, he's looking to join a new team for the coming years.
According to this latest report, the Suns are interested in the versatile wing and will be meeting with him on Wednesday.
Suns old brass was never a fan of Michael Beasley but new brass think he has matured so he will be in town tomorrow for a visit.

The news came before the Suns and Eric Gordon agreed to a four-year deal, so we'll see how those negotiations affect Beasley's should he go through with the visit. Steve Nash is looking for somewhere to end his career prolific career, and just about every team with a need at point guard has shown interest in the 38-year-old veteran. Nash has been linked to various teams in recent days, but none is more surprising than the Los Angeles Lakers. According to this latest tweet from Paul Coro, the Suns and Lakers could consider a sign-and-trade deal to send Nash to L.A.
The Lakers & Nash are interested in a sign-and-trade. Sounds like there's no way Sarver would do that for the #Suns rival.
— Paul Coro (@paulcoro) July 4, 2012
It's tough to imagine Nash going to the Lakers after so many showdowns with them during his Phoenix days, but you just never know anymore. And as Coro mentions in his tweet, much-maligned Suns general manager Robert Sarver may never live it down if he were to put Nash in the same division as Phoenix.
The Lakers are pretty strapped for cash due to the big contracts of Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and others, so this rumor doesn't really seem too legitimate. As is the case with Nash this offseason though, anything related to the star point guard will remain relevant in the hearts of Suns fans everywhere.

Phoenix Suns free agent point guard Steve Nash still doesn't know where he's going to end up, although one suitor is probably gone now that the Brooklyn Nets have signed Deron Williams to a pretty huge contract. The NBA offseason rumor mill is in full force already, and last week there were whispers that the Suns were offering free agent Steve Nash $12 million over two years to stay in Phoenix. However, that rumor remains unsubstantiated by the team or Nash's camp, and now 620 KTAR Phoenix's John Gambadoro is refuting it.

Nash has several suitors thus far, including the Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, and the Toronto Raptors. It's still unclear how much the Suns are willing to pay to retain their point guard for the last eight years, but it appears the report of $12 million over two years jumped the gun.

The New York Knicks were among the top suitors this offseason to try and get Steve Nash to commit to them. However, their cap space is pretty limited, which restricts the type of moves they could end up making besides the mid-level exception. New York would probably have to get a little creative to get Nash more money.
However, the Toronto Raptors (who should have plenty of money) executed a pretty nifty move in free agency that might have thwarted the best efforts of the Knicks to bring Nash back. Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated talks about how the signing of Landry Fields impacts how New York can try and approach Nash.
The Raptors took their already-aggressive push to land free-agent point guard Steve Nash to the next level Tuesday, agreeing to an offer sheet with Knicks restricted free agent shooting guard Landry Fields. The offer is for about $20 million over three years.
Beyond Toronto's desire to add the 24-year-old Fields to its backcourt, sources say the move was intended to keep New York from nabbing Nash. The Knicks were known to be considering sign-and-trade options involving Fields and Nash's former team, the Suns, as a way to pay Nash more than the $3 million mid-level exception. But because of the Raptors' offer sheet, the Knicks can no longer use Fields in such a scenario. New York will now have three days to match the offer after Fields signs it on July 11. If the Knicks match, they lose the option to trade Fields.

If Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns ends up leaving in free agency, there will be a great need for guards, particularly a new starting point guard. Could they reunite with one of their former teammates?
Marc Stein of ESPN files this report that has Goran Dragic and the Houston Rockets struggling to come eye-to-eye, leaving the door open for the Suns to swoop in and try and sign the guard.
The Rockets met with Dragic on Monday in Houston and were hopeful of reaching terms quickly with the Slovenian, who averaged 16.3 points and 7.3 assists in 32 games after the All-Star break following an injury to Kyle Lowry.
But Dragic left town without a deal, sources said, leading one source close to the process to say that the lefty's expected return to the Rockets is "not going to happen." Dragic is scheduled Tuesday to visit the Phoenix Suns, who dealt him to the Rockets at the 2011 trade deadline.
Phoenix knows all about Dragic, as he was a backup point guard for Nash from 2008 to 2011 before being dealt at last year's trade deadline to the Houston Rockets. With Steve Nash likely headed elsewhere this offseason, the Suns have turned their attention to finding their next star of the future. Could it be perhaps the best young shooting guard in the league by the name of Eric Gordon? Chris Broussard of ESPN files this report about how far the Suns could go to get him in the Valley of the Suns.
Nets have expressed interest in Eric Gordon, particularly as a replacement star if Deron Williams goes to Dallas, sources said.
— Chris Broussard (@Chris_Broussard) July 1, 2012
Gordon would seem a natural fit for what could be a turn towards a youth movement in Phoenix. With Kendall Marshall slated to become the next point guard of the Suns, Phoenix could end up really going young in the backcourt and have a rising star in Gordon all locked up. Things are looking real good regarding this deal.

The Phoenix Suns are probably going to have to end up rebuilding this offseason with Steve Nash likely heading to a new team. It probably means the Suns will have to take on new faces from new places. Michael Beasley and Eric Gordon are two potential targets, according to Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated.
As for Phoenix, a return to the Suns [for Nash] continues to appear unlikely. They are not among the teams aggressively pursuing him in the opening days of free agency and, according to the Arizona Republic, have instead been focusing on free agents like Michael Beasley and Eric Gordon.
Gordon is a sharpshooter, and the Suns were very deficient at shooting guard this past season. Gordon provides Phoenix with a scorer who should be able to keep Phoenix's offense from dropping off too much if Nash ends up departing.

It appeared the Phoenix Suns aren't making Steve Nash a high priority. Although Phoenix is reportedly offering Nash two years and $12 million, it's not quite as lucrative as the deal the Toronto Raptors are throwing his way. It just might not be enough to bring him back, even though it's a modest deal.
However, could Phoenix be moving on from Nash entirely? Chris Broussard's latest report seems to indicate it's possible the Suns aren't giving Nash any deal at all.
Sources say Phoenix has not yet made an offer to Steve Nash.

It'd be pretty shocking if Phoenix wasn't pursuing Nash at all in free agency, but it certainly wouldn't be unprecedented. The Suns do tend to make some curious decisions regarding who they keep and who they sign, and sometimes it involves cost-cutting measures. Perhaps spending a lot on Nash isn't recommended.

According to a tweet from Paul Calvisi, the Suns have offered Steve Nash a two-year, $12 million deal to stay with the club he's led for the past eight seasons.
Nash is one of the premier free agents on the market right now and - after the Brooklyn Nets' Deron Williams - is the most sought after point guard available. Both contenders and those looking for a veteran leader to take their young club to the next step are vying for Nash's services. Nash is taking his time sifting through all of the information and will listen to any team that wants to make a pitch. Among the teams competing with the Suns for Nash are the Nets, Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks.

There is little doubt that Steve Nash will be one of the hottest free agent commodities around the league in the coming weeks. Not only do the Suns want to retain their veteran point guard, but as many as four or five clubs are expected to put in a serious offer to land Nash for the next few seasons.
Nash, 38, is still an elite offensive point guard, and there is very little doubt that he wants to win a championship before hanging up his jersey for good. He has also stated that money will play some role in his decision, so don't expect him to take a discount.
The Toronto Raptors, who play in Nash's home country of Canada, reportedly made him a very enticing deal on Sunday.
Source confirms Toronto has offered Steve Nash a three-year, $36 million deal with no options attached. @ESPNSteinline had first.

The Raptors don't exactly appear like a team ready to compete for a title, but Nash may enjoy his final few seasons playing in his home country. And when they're offering $36 million over the next three seasons, it's tough to just brush the offer away.

All eyes will be on Steve Nash as free agency begins for the NBA this weekend, especially those of Suns fans everywhere. While Nash has enjoyed his time in the Valley, there is no doubt that the aging star wants to win a championship before he retires.
While some believe the Heat are the most like destination for Nash outside of the Suns, the Toronto Raptors will reportedly make a push to land him. And as this latest story from Sports Illustrated explains, the Raptors could be a legitimate threat for the Canadian point guard.
The Raptors are set to make a hard push for Steve Nash once free agency begins on Sunday, an interesting potential move one could view as both sensible and wasteful. The Raptors could, in theory, have much as $11 million or so in cap space, plenty to pursue Nash, whose status as a national hero in Canada has obvious appeal to a team that last summer signed Canadian Jamaal Magloire as a glorified native son mascot.
Nash, of course, is still a wonderful player who has said he will consider factors other than winning a title in choosing his next team - factors that will include money and his general comfort with any potential suitor city. Toronto presumably checks off both those boxes, while other possible destinations, including the Knicks and Heat, cannot offer any more than the mini mid-level exception that carries an annual starting salary of $3 million a year.
Nash has publicly stated that money will play a factor in his decision, although it would seem unlikely that a million dollars or so would be the determining factor for where he ends up. You can bet that Nash would love to play back in his home country, but the Raptors don't exactly look like a team ready to compete for a championship anytime soon.
Then again, neither do the Suns.

If Steve Nash leaves in free agency, the Phoenix Suns might want to consider going younger and trying to rebuild their team up.
Or the Suns could end up replacing one older veteran for another. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports has this to report about Phoenix potentially pursuing Boston Celtics shooting guard Ray Allen.
The Suns have significant salary-cap space, and could pay Allen more than the Miami Heat or New York Knicks. Suns president Lon Babby had been Allen’s agent for a significant part of his career until Babby started running Phoenix’s basketball operations two years ago.
Allen would provide Phoenix a much-need shooting guard that could come in and start immediately. Allen could also be the beneficiary of Phoenix's renowned medical training staff, which could help heal his nagging foot injuries. It's likely that both Boston and Miami will be in the running too, so expect this to be a race between several teams.

As the Phoenix Suns prepare for the 2012 NBA Draft, they made sure to take care of business on the homefront first as the team extended qualifying offers to both Robin Lopez and Aaron Brooks, effectively making both players restricted free agents heading into next season.
Per Arizona Sports 620 on Twitter:
The #Suns have extended qualifying offers to both Robin Lopez and Aaron Brooks, making both players restricted free agents.

Although not out of the woods yet with either player, taking them off of the regular free agent market will give the Suns some extra breathing room and decision making ability when the times is right this offseason. They can match any offers made by other teams before letting them go, another nice litmus test as to how desired they are around the league as well.

According to a report from Yahoo Sports Marc J. Spears, free agent point guard Steve Nash could have himself quite the difficult time picking a team to play for next season as he will have a number of teams courting him to make their city his latest landing spot.
Nash is expected to be courted by the Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks, league sources said. Nash does have New York connections: He lives here during the offseason and hosted his annual charity soccer game here Wednesday.
The 38 year old Nash has played with the Phoenix Suns for 10 years, including the last eight straight. His ties to New York could lead you to believe that they are close to the top of his short list, though he could basically go anywhere he chooses at this point in his career.

Entering into the 2012 NBA Draft the Phoenix Suns have major decisions to make on the roster and direction of the franchise. Are they looking to replace Steve Nash or create a new identity?
11 months ago Update 0 comments
What will Steve Nash do in free agency this year remains one of the biggest questions. Nash could go anywhere and is being coveted by plenty of teams. And there are plenty of scenarios. Nash could sign with a contender to try and get that elusive championship ring. He could go to an underdog and try and help them along and lead them to impressive things. He could return to the Phoenix Suns and finish his time with the team he enjoyed his greatest success.
Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York files this report that has Nash being open to all the opportunities, even the New York Knicks.
The 16-year veteran has expressed interest in playing in New York and wouldn't be opposed to playing with Jeremy Lin or for coach Mike Woodson.
"I wouldn't have any fear of the fans maybe having a love affair with Jeremy," Nash said. "I think it's great. ... That doesn't really bother me."
However, it's no given that he'd sign with a contender. In fact, he might just end up with another team at about the same level as the Suns.
"The truth is I'm a bit old school. For me, it would be hard to put on a Lakers jersey. That's just the way it is," Nash said. "You play against them so many times in the playoffs, and I just use them as an example, and I have the utmost respect for them and their organization.
"I kind of have that tendency (to try to beat the best teams), so it is strange, but as a free agent you're free to go where you want, so I'd have to consider everything regardless of the past or the future."
This figures to be one of the most wide open free agent races out there this offseason.

In what could be the final contract he ever signed, Steve Nash was beginning to seem like a popular choice for a player who takes a pay cut in order to have a better shot at winning a championship. With the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, and Chicago Bulls all being those destinations, Nash told the New York Post that money will still pay a part in his decision.
"I definitely feel I want to be validated monetarily to an extent,'' Nash said. "It's still very important. I think money in many ways represents respect. For example, if you sign with a team and take half or less money, six months later they trade you. It has to be one of the factors. It's not everything but it is important and will be one of the factors involved."
Many teams are reporting interest in Nash including the Toronto Raptors, the Portland Trailblazers and the Brookyln Nets. The Suns of course are looking to keep Nash in Phoenix, and all four teams have the cap space to make Nash a respectable offer.
While Nash isn't committing to the money, he is also making it clear that there will be many factors that go into his decision. When asked about specifically playing for the Knicks on ESPN Radio, Nash responded, "You can turn down a ton of money for a team you think can win a championship and there's an injury and the chemistry isn't right and you're traded in six months. I have to put all the things into the hat.''

You figured there would be a lot of rumors this offseason concerning Steve Nash. Nash is a free agent who will probably be highly coveted by multiple teams looking for that missing point guard that could help lead their team to an NBA championship. However, one team that has emerged at the forefront is the lowly Toronto Raptors, who aren't that good and aren't likely to contend for a title even if they do get Nash. It felt like even being the savior of Canadian basketball wouldn't be enough to get him.
Turns out it might have legs after all. Randy Hill at Fox Sports Arizona files this report that has Toronto being very interested in Nash.
Meanwhile, several NBA personnel executives have confirmed that the Nash-to-Toronto rumors may have real traction.
"I've been hearing that from people that would know," said one Western Conference sharpie, sounding very much like the rest of us. "The Raptors may not be ready to win right away, but with (Andrea) Bargnani, (DeMar) DeRozan and maybe (Jonas) Valanciunas coming over next season, they could be pretty decent right away with Nash. And they could have enough cap space to get something done there."
Valanciunas, the 7-footer chosen fifth overall by the Raptors in the 2011 draft, was the dominant player in last summer's U-19 World Championships. According to reports earlier this month, there's a strong chance he could buy out the last year of his European contract — the Raps are able to pony up roughly a quarter of that price — and play in the NBA next season.

As the Phoenix Suns get deeper into the postseason, it will only become less likely that they will retain the services of superstar point guard Steve Nash. Could Nash be taking his talents to South Beach to play for the Miami Heat?
Alex Kennedy at HoopsWorld reports that the newly-crowned NBA champs may be targeting Nash during the offseason.
Miami doesn't have much money to spend, but they'll attempt to lure a free agent with their mini mid-level exception, just as they were able to do with Shane Battier last summer. The HEAT are hoping to sign a veteran who is willing to take a pay cut in exchange for the opportunity to compete for a title. Miami is looking for a contributor who would prefer a ring to a large contract.
Steve Nash, Chris Kaman, Grant Hill, Andre Miller, Ray Allen and Jermaine O'Neal are among the players who Miami could target with their mini mid-level exception, according to sources close to the situation. Those players can likely make more money elsewhere, but may be willing to take less to join the HEAT.
This is certainly not the last team that will be tied to Nash, but it could be a very tempting thought for him to finish up his career playing for the powerhouse of the Eastern Conference.

Free Agent Steve Nash has been keeping himself busing playing soccer this summer with a pair of smaller clubs in New York City, but Jason Gay of the Wall Street Journal managed to catch up with him recently to discuss his future in the NBA.
"I'm open to every team that has interest in me," he said. "I have to weigh it up with family, salary, environment, opportunity to win-all these different factors that are in a big pot, and figure out what's best."
"Maybe it will be Phoenix or another team that's kind of a project. Or maybe it's a team that's on the cusp."
Nash has spent his last 10 summers in the Big Apple, and when asked about playing for the Knicks, was very honest about that possible opportunity:
"I'm completely open to it," Nash said. "In some ways, it'd be great to play for the Knicks. I don't want to, you know, set off any alarm bells right now, but it'd be a great opportunity. It's a franchise I'd love to play for. It's a city I love, obviously, living here the last 10 summers...I would definitely consider it, if they had interest in me."
There is a lot of time left this summer for Nash to make any decisions. As for now, he's just enjoying the City, and of course, soccer.

The Phoenix Suns need a point guard this offseason, and they'll address that problem in one of two ways.
If Nash goes though, they might have a tailor-made replacement ready to assume his role. In fact, one such player will be available who has already spent plenty of time backing up Nash as a former Phoenix Sun. Sean Deveney of the Sporting News has more on the possibility of Goran Dragic returning to Phoenix as the new starter.
Assuming that is not Houston, a source told Sporting News, Dragic could wind up in a familiar surrounding anyway—back in Phoenix. Should the Suns lose Nash in free agency, Phoenix is expected to make a push to re-sign Dragic and give him the reins in coach Alvin Gentry’s offense. That would suit Dragic.
"I learned a lot in Phoenix, I had a very good time there," he said. "I don’t know what is going to happen, but that is an organization I know, obviously, and they helped me a lot."
Dragic averaged around seven points and three assists per game with Phoenix before finally getting a chance to start with Houston after Kyle Lowry got injured.

Even if he won't admit it, Steve Nash is affecting the order of things during the annual summer trading bazaar that goes on between NBA teams during the offseason. One of the main attractions in this year's trade circus is Deron Williams, who according to ESPN's Chris Broussard might be a good fight with the Suns.
That leaves Phoenix. The weather and golf (Williams is a huge golf guy) is great, the offense is free-flowing (something Williams is definitely looking for) and with him, the team could be on the rise. While the Suns' first choice appears to be to re-sign Nash, the younger Williams is obviously a better option. I don't think the Suns could move ahead of Dallas on Williams' list, but they should not be completely discounted, either.
Something tells me that winning a championship is a bit higher on Williams' pecking order than golf and cacti, and with teams like Dallas eyeing his services and a litany of feasible sign-and-trades amongst playoff contenders Phoenix seems like a very, very long shot. Plus, the Dallas area has lots of nice golf courses for Williams to play in the offseason, and it's hot there too!
The ol' rumor mill keeps on keeping on.

The Phoenix Suns have only one draft pick in 2012. They'll have to make it count.
The Suns are organizing their first draft workouts this week, and they'll be checking out six players today according to Bright Side of the Sun: Syracuse center Fab Melo and St. Bonaventure big man Andrew Nicholson are the two players among the players being worked out who probably have a chance at getting picked in the first round. Could it suggest Phoenix is looking toward taking a big man with their lone pick?

Even though Steve Nash isn't thinking about his basketball future yet, doesn't mean the rest of us haven't started.
Nash, along with the Brooklyn Nets' Deron Williams, are the premier point guards on the market this summer and the list of Nash suitors is starting to form, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
The Suns still hold onto hope that they might be able to bring back Nash, though it seems unlikely after that final curtain call game that concluded the season. At 38 years old, Nash could want that last chance at a ring and Phoenix is not the place to chase one.
Other teams linked to Nash are the Blazers, Raptors and Nets (if they lose Williams). And even though they will be short on cash to throw at Nash, the Knicks, Heat and Bulls have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
Nash could make the Blazers a title-contender with all the young talent already there but other than that, the Heat and Bulls are the only current contenders on the list. We'll learn what Nash truly wants out of his next signing based on where he decides to go.

Sitting towards the back of the pack in the 2012 NBA Draft Lottery, the Phoenix Suns had a very minuscule shot at moving up the draft order. Nevertheless, the Suns locked up the No .13 pick overall in the 2012 NBA draft, getting a very solid pick to add to their squad for next season.
Phoenix began in the No. 13 spot in the draft order heading into tonight, with only a 2.18 percent chance of moving up into the top three and 0.6 percent chance of moving into the No. 1 spot. Like I said before, minuscule.
With much of the Suns' offseason buzz surrounding the return or departure of Steve Nash, locking up a No. 13 draft pick will be the easy part for Phoenix's braintrust this summer.

The second oldest player in the NBA plans on lacing up his sneakers again for his 18th season. Grant Hill told Stefan Swiat on Suns.com, that he is focusing on his health this coming summer in order to be a solid contributor for the Phoenix Suns in the 2012-13 season. Hill will work with the Suns training staff all throughout the summer.
Hill missed 17 games this past season due to knee issues. He underwent surgery on his right knee this past March and returned at the end of the season alas not at 100 percent.
Despite his long tenure in the league, Hill is only playing for his third team in his career. Before joining the Suns in 2007, Hill played for the Orlando Magic from 2000-2007 and the Detroit Pistons from 1994-2000.

At 38 years old, Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash will eventually have to move on from playing the game of basketball, and it looks like he's already lining up future gigs to keep him busy once that time comes.
Nash was named general manager of Canada Basketball's senior men's team on Tuesday, according to Sportsnet. Already the biggest basketball star to come out of Canada, Nash will now take his knowledge of the game to the front office to try to put together the best team possible.
It won't be an easy thing to do. The last time the Canadians made an Olympic appearance was in 2000 in Sydney where they finished seventh and Nash played for them.
Nash' first task will be finding a coach after Leo Rautins resigned in September. Jay Triano, the coach of the 2000 team, was brought up as a possibility but his interest in the job is unknown.
Nash will have help making decisions as Rowan Barrett was also hired Tuesday as assistant general manager, according to a tweet from National Post's Eric Koreen.

Steve Nash is a free agent and while the Phoenix Suns have said repeatedly and recently that they would like to have him back and he's reportedly expressed similar interest in returning, that doesn't mean he will stay. At this point, it's impossible to know where he will end up playing next season.
Should he decide to leave, some think he might try and chase a championship by taking a lot less money to go to a contender like the Miami Heat or New York Knicks. One writer, however, thinks he could choose to go back to his home country and help rebuild the Toronto Raptors.
Sam Smith of NBA.com files this report.
Many believe Nash instead of chasing a title with a contender for a lesser salary will go back to Canada and the Raptors for a three-year deal and help bring their young players along.

Only a few days into the offseason Phoenix Suns forward Channing Frye wasted no time getting his required surgery out of the way, undergoing a successful procedure to repair a 'sublexed' or partial dislocation of his right shoulder on Wednesday.
Dr. Lewis Yocum performed the surgery in Anaheim, CA under the recomendation of team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Thomas Carter.
Frye suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Suns' April 21 game against the Denver Nuggets at the US Airways Center, sitting out the rest of the season because of it. He had a similar injury last season that forced him out of seven games, but it was serious enough to merit a surgical procedure this time around.
Frye averaged 10.5 points and 5.9 rebounds for Phoenix this season, the third straight season that he has averaged double-digits in points.
