Doan, Coyotes Up 1-0 On Kings After First Period

Stay connected for news and updates

The Los Angeles Kings doubled up the Coyotes in shots, but it's the Coyotes who headed to the locker room with the 1-0 lead after the first period.

Captain Coyote, Shane Doan, beat Jonathan Quick high, stick-side after receiving a pass from Ray Whitney at 14:19 of the first period. It was Doan's fourth goal of the playoffs, and has given the Coyotes a rare lead.

The Coyotes held the lead for only 2:07 in Game 3 before Anze Kopitar tied the game up. That was the first time the Kings had been down in a game since their Game 1 matchup with the St .Louis Blues.

The Coyotes only managed five shots on goal, despite having three power play opportunities. The man-advantage unit has struggled all year, but Doan's goal brings a glimmer of hope. If the Coyotes want to avoid the sweep they will have to convert on the power play.

It's that simple.
