Andy Miele Wins Hobey Baker Award After Signing With Coyotes Earlier In Week

Andy Miele has been announced as this year’s winner of the Hobey Baker Award after signing with the Phoenix Coyotes earlier this week.

The award, which was presented on Friday night in St. Paul, Minn. — the site of the NCAA Frozen Four — is given to the best college hockey player each season. Miele, a 5-foot-9, 180 pound center, recently ended an excellent senior season with Miami (Ohio) University.

Miele led the entire NCAA with 24 goals and 47 assists to total 71 points in just 39 games. His 24 goals were tied for 10th most in the country and the 71 total points were 11 more than anyone else in the nation this year and the most since Colorado College’s Peter Sejna totaled 82 points in 2002-03.

According to the Coyotes’ press release, Miele is the second Coyotes player in franchise history to win the award (Kevin Porter, 2008). Scott Pellerin, who played 23 games with the Coyotes in 2002-03, won the award in with the New Jersey Devils organization in 1992.

Miele hasn’t appeared in a game for the Coyotes so far, but is listed on the roster.
