Andy Miele Recalled By Coyotes To Add Firepower

The Phoenix Coyotes have struggled scoring goals and on the power play in their last two games, home losses to the Chicago Blackhawks and L.A. Kings. To combat that, the team announced they have called up center Andy Miele from the Portland Pirates, the Coyotes American Hockey League affiliate.

The 5-foot-9, 180 pound Miele has played four games with the Pirates this season and leads the team in goals (3), assists (4) and points (7). On Wednesday night, Miele recorded a five point game by registering 2-3-5 in a 5-3 victory over the Manchester Monarchs.

In 2010-11, Miele played in all 39 games for the Miami University RedHawks (CCHA) and led the nation in scoring with 24-47-71.  He also led all NCAA players in assists and points and won the Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA's best player.

According to Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney, Miele will be in the lineup on Sunday when the 'Yotes face the Anaheim Ducks on the road.

"We need to have more skill and playmaking ability in our lineup so Andy will get his chance. We like his creativity, his puck movement and his power-play ability." Maloney said.

The Coyotes are still without center Kyle Turris who is holding out due to a contract dispute.
