Cain Velasquez defeated Junior Dos Santos by unanimous decision to win back the UFC heavyweight title. It was Dos Santos' first loss inside the Octagon.

Arizona State alum Cain Velasquez reclaimed the heavyweight title that Junior dos Santos took from him last November, with a unanimous decision victory Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Velasquez dominated from start to finish, winning by scores of 50-45, 50-43 and 50-44.

Velasquez, who was an All-American wrestler at Arizona State in 2004 and 2005, attacked from the onset of the fight, shooting for takedowns and attacking the champion from the first minute of the fight.

Dos Santos was able to stuff the first few takedown attempts from the challenger and the fight stayed on the feet for the opening minutes.

Around the midway point of the first round, Velasquez landed a right hand to the chin of Dos Santos that dropped the champion, who was undefeated inside the Octagon coming into the bout.

Velasquez pounced on Dos Santos with ground-and-pound, seriously hurting the champion, who barely made it out of the first round.

Rounds 2-5 were a majority of the same. Velasquez surprisingly to some, got the better of Dos Santos on the feet, landing shots from inside the clinch, on the ground and on the outside.

Unlike their first fight, which lasted just 64 seconds, Velasquez was able to get the champion to the ground, to the tune of over 10 takedowns that Velasquez scored during the fight.

Dos Santos came into the fight having the best takedown defense in the heavyweight division (88.2%).

"I knew that Junior was a tough striker and he was able to end our last fight that way," said Velasquez after the victory. "So I was prepared for him this time. I was able to effectively use my striking and my grappling to control him throughout the fight and get the title back."

As the final seconds dwindled down, the largely Hispanic crowd, rose to their feet and cheered on their champion. Once the final bell rang, Velasquez dropped to the floor and put his hands in the air.

He walked out of the Octagon as the UFC heavyweight champion of the world.

Phoenix is looking for a fourth straight win against the improved Bobcats.

The Suns are currently riding a season-high three-game winning streak, Phoenix looks to extend that number to four as they host the 7-17 Charlotte Bobcats tonight at the U.S Airways Center. Here is your game preview

PG - Goran Drajic vs. Kenba Walker

SG - Shannon Brown vs. Gerald Henderson

C - Marcin Gortat vs. Byron Mullens

Key Matchup

Kenba Walker vs. Goran Drajic - Over his last two games, Walker is averaging 30 points and seven assists. Walker leads the Bobcats in points, assists and steals. The point guard in Charlotte has shot at least 20 field goals in each of the past two games. Drajic has been relatively quiet in his last four games, averaging 11.3 points and 6.3 assists per game. The Charlotte offense runs through Walker, he is the key distributor while being the go-to scorer for the Bobcats.

Key Stat

103.8 - This is the number of points that the Charlotte Bobcats allow per game. This puts them dead last in the NBA. Phoenix is 12th in the NBA in scoring, and 25th in points allowed. Expect this game to be a high scoring affair as both teams should be able to put up points.

Keys to Victory

Start Fast - The Bobcats fell to the Los Angeles Lakers 101-100 last night. They are in the middle of a four-game road trip and the Suns need to exploit that. Phoenix needs to take advantage of the tired legs that Charlotte is sure to have, look for Phoenix to have a fast first quarter and get a lead early on.

Win Inside - The Suns are much more athletic down low with Marcin Gortat and Louis Scola. Bismack Biyambo is only averaging 4.6 points per game and Byron Mullens just 11.7. Scola had 10 assists in Phoenix's victory over Sacramento and Gortat is averaging over two blocks per game. Phoenix needs to take advantage of their presence inside.

The Arizona Cardinals plummeted again in this week's power rankings. How far?
Glendale's Benson "Smooth" Henderson defended his lightweight title for the second time with a unanimous decision victory over Nate Diaz. Find out more results from fight night below.

This time there was no controversy. There were no questions and there was no doubt who the best lightweight in the world was. Benson Henderson confirmed his status at the top of the UFC's lightweight division with a five round domination of Nate Diaz in route to a unanimous decision victory Saturday night in Seattle.

"We matched up pretty well, and it went my way tonight," said Henderson following his victory.

The Glendale resident controlled the action from the opening bell, using leg kicks and outstanding clinch work to nullify the boxing skills of Diaz. Henderson took his opponent down eight times during the fight and dropped Diaz multiple times with punches.

Henderson landed 124 significant strikes on Diaz, including 90 to the head and 49 to the legs.

"I did not perform how I would have liked," said Diaz after the fight. "I caught a punch in the eye pretty early in the fight, and things went blurry, they never came back."

Henderson was adamant that he will fight anyone in the lightweight division.

"I want to fight the best guys in the world at 155 (pounds), line them up, I'm not going anywhere."

Henderson's next outing may be a rematch against Anthony Pettis, the last man to defeat Henderson back in December of 2010.

Gustafsson Tops Shogun; Aims for Light Heavyweight Title

On Saturday night, Alexander Gustafsson went from prized prospect to title contender. The 25-year-old from Stockholm, Sweden, controlled Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for three rounds on his way to a unanimous decision victory.

Gustafsson outlanded Shogun 72-41 and took down the former UFC light heavyweight champion six times in their 15-minute fight. "The Mauler" did not lose a round on any judges scorecard, beating Rua by scores of 30-27, 30-27, 30-26.

UFC President Dana White called this fight a No. 1 contender fight earlier in the week. With the winner facing the winner of Jon Jones/Chael Sonnen. However, reports surfaced last night that Dan Henderson is not 100% healthy and Gustafsson may take his place to fight Lyoto Machida in February.

Rory MacDonald Defeats B.J. Penn

Rory MacDonald was machine-like inside and outside of the Octagon Saturday night in route to a dominant unanimous decision victory over B.J. Penn.

The future Hall of Famer Penn was unable to close the distance against MacDonald, only landing 24 significant strikes on the 23-year-old Canadian. MacDonald controlled every minute of the fight and winning a wide (30-26, 30-26, 30-27) unanimous decision.

Benson Henderson is still looking for respect as the UFC lightweight champion faces Nate Diaz tonight on FOX. After two controversial victories over Frankie Edgar, Henderson has a chance to confirm his place as the best lightweight in the world tonight.

Glendale's Benson "Smooth" Henderson returns to the Octagon tonight to battle Nate Diaz in the second defense of his UFC lightweight title. The bout serves as the main event for the UFC on FOX 5, airing live on network television.

"I have not been this excited for a fight in a long time," said UFC President Dana White at the pre-fight press conference. "This is the baddest fight ever on network television."

Henderson is looking to cap off a year that saw him win the belt from Frankie Edgar in February in Japan and defend it by defeating Edgar again in August. Henderson won both fights by unanimous decision, both controversially.

"I don't think he's had his due yet," said White about Henderson. "This is the fight for him, Nate Diaz is mean and nasty, if Ben Henderson wins this fight, he should finally start getting the respect he is due."

Henderson is currently riding a five fight winning streak, with victories over Clay Guida, Jim Miller, Mark Bocek and Frankie Edgar (twice). He is the former WEC lightweight champion and has not lost since 2010.

In steps Nate Diaz, the Ultimate Fighter season five winner is on a three fight win streak and has not lost since he returned to lightweight in 2011. Diaz has been awarded "Fight of the Night" and "Submission of the Night" five times apiece in his UFC career, and is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

"We are both pretty agressive, he likes to come forward and I like to come forward," said Benson Henderson about his opponent. "Stylistically, fighting wise I think we are pretty similar. We go about it in different ways, and once we get into that Octagon, it's going to be pretty fun," said Henderson.

An added incentive for Henderson is the fact that he is fighting in his hometown. Although the fighter resides and trains in Glendale, Henderson was raised and went to high schol in Federal Way, Washington. However, for the champion it's just business as usual.

"I try to stay focused on the fight," said Henderson. "Obviously coming back here (Seattle) I have a ton of old high school buddies hitting me up, my cousins, cousins, cousins are hitting me up, but they are all pretty understanding."

In the main event of a nationally televised card, tonight could be the breakout performance that propels Henderson to stardom on the national stage.

Phoenix fell to Memphis in overtime 108-98 on Tuesday night, allowing Zach Randolph to go off for 38 points and 22 rebounds.

Phoenix Update

The Suns are currently on a season high four-game losing streak. They went just 1-5 on their six game road trip, including a 40-point loss to the Pistons. Goran Drajic leads the team in minutes played, points, steals and assists, and Marcin Gortat is the team's leading rebounder and shot blocker. Tonight is also "satisfaction guaranteed night" in Phoenix, as the Suns are having a promotion where if fans do not enjoy themselves, they will be given a refund for their ticket.

Dallas Update

Key Stat: 102.9

The Suns give up an average of 102.9 points per game, which puts them 30th in the NBA. Phoenix has given up at least 101 points in each of their last four games (all losses). The Mavericks average 98.8 points per game, and have not scored 100 points in their last five games. The Suns are 5-9 this season when they give up over 100 points.

Key Matchup: Shannon Brown vs. O.J. Mayo

Mayo leads the Mavericks in scoring, with 19.7 points per game and is the go-to guy for Dallas. While Brown is only averaging 11.9 points per game on the season, he has scored in double figures in his last three games. Mayo shoots an impressive 47% from the field and over 50% from three point territory, so Brown's defense on the former USC star will be crucial to a Phoenix victory.

Houston played five quarters against Jacksonville, then traveled to Detroit to play the Lions on Thanksgiving and won that game in overtime as well. That's good enough to keep them atop our rankings for another week.

1. Houston Texans (10-1) - The Texans escaped Detroit with a narrow 34-31 victory on Thanksgiving. For Houston to come off an OT victory last week and play on a short week, and win on the road is very impressive. Houston sits as the No. 1 seed in the AFC, they are 5-0 on the road and have outscored their opponents by 116 points. Previous Ranking: 1

2. San Francisco (8-2-1) - Two weeks and two victories for Collin Kaepernick, as the 49ers defeated the Saints in New Orleans 31-21. When your defense scores two touchdowns, and you can run the football like San Francisco can, you are going to be pretty successful in the NFL. The 49ers rank second in the NFL in point differential (+116) and is the clear favorite in the NFC as of now. Previous Ranking: 2

3. Atlanta Falcons (10-1) - The Falcons beat Tampa Bay by one on the road to improve to 10-1. Again, it was not pretty for the Falcons (unless your name is Julio Jones, 6 catches 147 yards), but Atlanta got the job done. The Falcons hold the second best passing offense in the league, and face New Orleans on Thursday night. Previous Ranking: 3

4. New England Patriots (8-3) - The Patriots feasted on the Jets on Thanksgiving to the tune of 475 total yards and a 30-point victory. New England has won their past two games by a combined 65 points. Previous Ranking: 5

5. Baltimore Ravens (9-2) - The Ray Rice catch on 4th and 29 that yielded 29 and 1/2 yards was the best play of the NFL season so far (unless you are a fan of the Chargers). Baltimore may get the services of Ray Lewis back, who suffered a torn triceps injury but looks to return at the end of the season. Previous Ranking: 4

6. Denver Broncos (8-3) - A little closer than most thought, but Denver got the job done with a 17-9 victory over the Chiefs in Arrowhead on Sunday. As Cody Ulm pointed out last week, Denver has the longest winning streak in the NFL right now at six games and are currently the fourth seed in the AFC playoffs. Previous Ranking: 6

7. Chicago Bears (8-3) - The Bears halted a two game losing streak with a 28-10 victory over Minnesota. However, Matt Forte, Devin Hester and Charles Tillman were all injured in that game and their statuses are crucial to the success of the team the rest of the season. Previous Ranking: 8

8. New York Giants (7-4) - A few weeks ago it looked like a sure thing that the Giants would win the NFC East. However with Washington playing week, New York got a huge victory over Green Bay to keep some breathing room in the division. Eli Manning threw for three touchdowns in New York's 38-10 domination of Green Bay. Previous Ranking: 10

9. Indianapolis Colts (7-4) - The feel good story of the NFL continues to win, as the Colts put away Buffalo 20-13 on Sunday. The Colts have won five of six and now they have cheerleaders shaving their heads in honor of Chuck Pagano. There is nothing bad I can say about them. Previous Ranking: 13

10. Green Bay Packers (7-4) - The Packers had a chance to take the lead in the NFC North, but got spanked by the Giants 38-10. The loss snapped a five game winning streak that the Packers put together. The division is still theirs, as they play four of their final five games against the NFL's black and blue division. Previous Ranking: 7

11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-5) - Tampa Bay snapped a four game winning streak with a one point loss to Atlanta. The Bucs lead the league in rushing defense, but are last in passing defense. The muscle hamster (Doug Martin) went over 1,000 yards on the season and leads all rookies in rushing. Previous Ranking: 12

12. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5) - The fact that the Steelers only lost by six when they turned the ball over six times. I don't fault Pittsburgh too much for losing a divisional game on the road with their third string quarterback. Previous Ranking: 9

13. Cincinnati Bengals (6-5) - The Bengals are finally starting to play good football, as the have won three in a row. The Bengals play three straight teams from the AFT West, they have already beaten Kansas City and Oakland and now they face the lowly San Diego Chargers next week. Previous Ranking: 16

14. Seattle Seahawks (6-5) - With Tampa Bay, Minnesota and New Orleans all losing, the Seahawks had a chance to move closer to the playoffs. They failed. Losing to the Miami Dolphins 24-21 on a last second field goal. They also lost their two starting cornerbacks to drug suspensions. Needless to say, things could be better in Seattle. Previous Ranking: 11

15. Minnesota Vikings (6-5) - The Vikings began a brutal final six games with a road trip to Chicago. The Vikings fell 28-10, committing three turnovers and holding the ball 15 minutes less than the Bears. Minnesota's final five games: Green Bay twice, on the road against St. Louis and Houston and the Bears at home. Yikes! Previous Ranking: 14

16. Washington Redskins (5-6) - After the Redskins lost to Carolina, many counted them out of the playoff race. However after two consecutive wins and losses by four teams in front of them, Washington has life. The Skins are two games back in the NFC East and one game back in the wild card race. Previous Ranking: 19

17. Miami Dolphins (5-6) - The fighting Ryan Tannehill's are 5-6 with their 24-21 victory over the Seahawks. Who would have thought that the Dolphins would be in second place in the AFC East after 11 games? Miami faces New England and San Francisco in the next two weeks, a tough stretch for a rookie quarterback. Previous Ranking: 20

18. New Orleans (5-6) - The Saints have come back from 0-4 to the brink of playoff contention. Their chances took a hit with a 31-21 loss to the 49ers, but the Saints are only a game back. The schedule (@ ATL, @ NYG, TB, @ DAL, CAR) is not favorable for Drew Brees and company. Previous Ranking: 15

19. Dallas Cowboys (5-6) - Dallas lost its first Thanksgiving game in the Romo era to the Redskins. Dallas ranks last in the league in rushing offense but Tony Romo fantasy owners were happy with Romo's performance on Thursday. Previous Ranking: 17

20. Detroit Lions (4-7) - The Lions played very well in their 34-31 OT loss to the Texans. The Lions were a made field goal away from winning and being in playoff contention. You know what Al Pacino says. "Life is a game of inches." Previous Ranking: 18

21. St. Louis Rams (4-6-1) - Coming into the game against the Cardinals, without forcing a turnover in their last five games. That all changed against Ryan Lindley, as the Rams intercepted the rookie four times and returned two of them for TD's. I'm going to say what we are all thinking: that one in the last column just looks weird. Previous Ranking: 24

22. San Diego Chargers (4-7) - This may be a stretch but I'm pretty sure the staff of this website could have stopped the Ravens on 4th and 29. The Chargers have lost three in a row and it does not get any easier with the Bengals coming to town this week. Previous Ranking: 21

23. Buffalo Bills (4-7) - The Bills were respectable in their 20-13 loss to the Colts. The Bills rank 7th in the NFL in rushing and the good news is they play Jacksonville and St. Louis at home in their next two games. Previous Ranking: 22

24. New York Jets (4-7) - Jets fans did not have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. The Jets lost by 30 points to a division rival, their offense continues to be a diaster, and Rex Ryan is on a very hot seat. Previous Ranking: 23

25. Arizona Cardinals (4-7) - The only thing you have to know about this team is that the Arizona Diamondbacks have won a game more recently than the Cardinals. Previous Ranking: 25

26. Cleveland Browns (3-8) - The Cleveland defense forced six turnovers in their 20-14 victory over the Steelers. The Steelers were playing Charlie Batch, but nonetheless Cleveland won their third game of the year. Previous Ranking: 29

27. Tennessee Titans (4-7) - The Titans lost to the Jaguars 24-19 on Sunday. They have been outscored by their opponents by 97 points and five of their seven losses have been by double digets. Previous Ranking: 26

28. Philadelphia Eagles (3-8) - With their eight point loss to Carolina this week, the Eagles have lost six games in a row. Nick Foles has not been the answer so far, with three interceptions and four fumbles in two starts. Previous Ranking: 27

29. Carolina Panthers (3-8) - Cam Newton won't have to call anyone out this week as the Panthers won 30-22 against the Eagles. Newton had 350 yards and four total touchdowns against Philly. Previous Ranking: 30

30. Oakland Raiders (3-8) - The Raiders have lost three straight games by 10 points or more. They rank 29th in the NFL in rushing yards and 28th against the run. Previous Ranking: 28

31. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9) - Jacksonville picked up their second win of the season over Tennessee. Chad Henne is showing what a decent quarterback means to a team. Previous Ranking: 31

32. Kansas City Chiefs (1-10) - The Chiefs have lost eight games in a row and have been outscored by 110 points over the course of the season. Previous Ranking: 32

Could Phoenix find some brotherly love in Philadelphia? Unfortunately no, as Phoenix lost 104-101 in a tough fought game to start a six game road trip.

The Phoenix Suns opened a six-game road trip with a 104-101 loss against the Philadelphia 76ers Sunday night. Like in many other contests this season, the Suns fell behind early, trailing the Sixers 6-0 in the blink of an eye and being down as many as eight points in the first quarter.

Phoenix did not lead until the 3:15 mark of the opening quarter, they held that lead for about 21 seconds in the first before Philly took it back on a three by Dorrell Wright.

Alvin Gentry has said in the past that this team needs to start games. They cannot fall behind early, especially on the road against a playoff team.

Give the Suns credit, they opened up the second quarter on a 9-2 and led most of the second quarter. One thing that fans have to admire about this team is they do not quit, and they battle until the end of games.

Michael Beasley led the team with 21 points, including eight in the final quarter. Marcin Gortat chipped in with 18 points and seven rebounds. Markieff Morris had another nice night, finishing with eight points and 10 rebounds. Since being promoted to the starting lineup, Morris is averaging 16.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Another bright spot for Phoenix tonight was the play of the bench. Phoenix's reserves tallied 42 points, including three players in double figures.

The Suns have the day off tomorrow before heading to Cleveland for a matchup with the Cavaliers on Tuesday.

Gameday is here, as the Cardinals look to end a six game losing streak today against the Rams. Here are the keys to victory and some important match ups for Arizona.

The Arizona Cardinals will look to end their six game losing streak this afternoon in the friendly confines of University of Phoenix Stadium against the St. Louis Rams. It was St. Louis that started the current losing streak, when the beat the Sun Devils 17-3 in week five.

Since then, the wheels have fallen off for Arizona to the tune of six straight losses, a quarterback change and many questioning the head coach. With San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago looming, the Cardinals have their best chance to end the skid today against the Rams. Here are the keys to the victory over the Cardinals.

Keys to the game

Run the Football

Ryan Lindley will make is first career start against a Rams defense that sacked Kevin Kolb nine times in their first meeting. Beanie Wells is expected to return is LaRod Stephens-Howling has rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns in the past two games and Arizona needs to run the football.

If Ryan Lindley is forced to throw the ball 30 times, the Cardinals do not have a chance. The running game has to be an important factor on this game from the start.

Play from Ahead

It is important for the Cardinals to get a lead and play from ahead during the game. Teams that play from behind face more pressure and often times thrown the football more. The Cardinals have to limit the load on Lindley and that means letting the rookie play from ahead. Playing from ahead allows you to take chances on defense, and take some chances down the field.

Win Field Position

We all know that the Arizona offense is no juggernaut. The Cardinal offense needs to work on short fields, like it did a lot against the Falcons. The Cardinals can do this by forcing turnovers and winning the battle on special teams.

Key Match Ups

Cardinals LT Nate Potter vs. Rams DE Robert Quinn/Chris Long: The last time the Cardinals played the Rams, Kevin Kolb was sacked nine times. Potter played well in his first start against Atlanta, only giving up three quarterback disruptions. Whoever Potter is asked to block, the rookie 7th round pick is in for a challenge.

Cardinals QB Ryan Lindley vs. Rams Defense: We know that Lindley will take his lumps however long he starts this season. The question I have is: how intelligent is Lindley? How effective is he at reading defenses and changing things when he has to?

Cardinals PR Patrick Peterson vs. Rams P Johnny Hecker: As I mentioned earlier, field position is important for the Cardinals. Peterson does not need to break one for a touchdown (although that would be nice), but he needs to put Arizona in good field position.

The Sun Devils improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2009-2010 with a 27-point win against Florida A&M on Sunday. Here are my thoughts from the game.

The Arizona State Sun Devils improved to 2-0 on Sunday with a 97-70 victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers. It was not all pretty for the Sun Devils, who saw a 19 point lead shrink to five in the second half.

However, ASU overcame some adversity and now is undefeated through two games for the first time since the 2009-2010 season. Here is what I took out of Sunday's victory.

The Sun Devils showed improvement from season opener

The two biggest arenas of improvement that I saw were free throw shooting and rebounding. Against Central Arkansas, the Sun Devils shot just 13-25 from the free throw line. Yesterday Arizona State shot 22-26 from the line. Jahii Carson shot 6-7 from the line after only shooting 3-6 in the season opener.

Herb Sendek focused on rebounding during the week of practice leading up to the Florida A&M contest. The Sun Devils showed team rebounding on Sunday, as 11 players grabbed at least one rebound, led by Jonathan Gilling with 15. Chris Colvin grabbed six rebounds off the bench. Against Central Arkansas, ASU gave up 20 offensive rebounds. The Sun Devils gave up 14 against Florida A&M, yes it is not ideal but it is an improvement.

Chris Colvin is to Arizona State as James Harden was to Oklahoma City

Yes I know that is a big comparison, but Colvin brings energy on both sides of the ball when he comes into the game. Colvin scored 12 points off the bench against Florida A&M, this after he scored 11 against Central Arkansas. Colvin also grabbed six rebounds and dished three assists. He plays starter minutes and brings energy to the lineup when he enters the game.

The Sun Devils will go through scoring slumps during games

For most of the first half, the Sun Devils were holding a comfortable lead against the Rattlers. However in the second half ASU hit a cold spell and Florida A&M cut the lead down to five. At one point, ASU was shooting 27% from the field in the second half.

ASU will have its moments when they go cold from the field, because they rely so much on the outside shot. The Sun Devils did a good job bouncing back and closing the game out, however against a tougher opponent they might not be so lucky.
