Hamilton High School and University of Nevada alumnus Dontay Moch's blog about his journey to the NFL - THE NFL DRAFT.

NFL Draft day is here, and I'm speechless. I have no words to describe the way I have been feeling. It's unexplainable. I have never felt so ready in my life. I want my draft day to be here, day1 . . . day2 . . . day3. These days are the days that will change a lot of young mens' lives who are going through the same process as me. With all the traveling, team workouts, team meetings, meeting new people . . . all of which plays a role on where and when you will be drafted. However you also have to understand what you do off the field follows you in your football career. Everything has built up to these days.

What I want is to be the best that I can, and grow from there!

I have moved back to Arizona for the time being until I am blessed with a chance to show the NFL what I can do. Draft day will be an emotional day for me and many others as we each sit and wait for our names to be called; some may and some may not be called. All I can say is that I want it bad!

Traveling around the U.S. has been great. Seeing cities/states that I had not previously been to.

Hamilton High School and University of Nevada alumnus Dontay Moch's weekly blog about his journey to the NFL - Pro Day and Ring Ceremony.

These last couple of weeks have been crazy however very enjoyable.

Memories. It seemed a little different being back at my Reno house with my roommates still having to go to practice/workouts/meetings. Seeing them leave and prepare for Nevada football was interesting; I saw that my time as a player at Nevada had ended. It was a different perspective . . . in a good way. Now I can enjoy what is next to come from my fellow Nevada team members. Best of luck to my Nevada Wolfpack football team as they start spring ball. All I can say is: BALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!

Moving On. Pro Day has come and gone. It was great to see my coaches . . . even if one of them couldn't stop messing with me. At one point he said jokingly, "Practice is at 2:15 p.m. Don't be late-full pads." I couldn't help but to laugh at him. Now workouts with NFL teams have started to take place. I have continued working out and cleaning up my drills-making that smooth transition.

In addition to work, I have been able to catch up with some friends on my free time. I have been feasting since I have touched down in Reno. I have probably been to the Wolf Den for an AWFUL AWFUL burger just a little over a dozen times now. By far one of my favorite places for a burger! A must try for those who have yet to have some of its mouth-watering burger/fries.

Married to the Game. Sunday March 27, 2011 was a day that we all had been waiting for. OUR RINGS ARE FINALLY HERE. The Dream Team Ring Ceremony was held at the El Dorado in Reno. All of the players attended this event, along with some of the community. It turned out to be a great showing and was great to spend time with new and old friends.

Hamilton High School and University of Nevada alumnus Dontay Moch's weekly blog about his journey to the NFL - PRO Day.

Since the Combine was over, it feels as if I have had to work even harder. I've been in Arizona enjoying time with family and catching up a bit with friends, but I have continue focusing on working out, running, and keeping fresh on drills.

"Spring break" is just not the same anymore. I guess I'm learning to be a pro. Pro Day is right around the corner...will be returning to Reno for March 22. Also starting to work out individually with NFL teams. I'm ready to fastforward ... but enough about me. Can only talk about myself so much. What about you? Not a big b-ball guy but who you got in the NCAA tourney? What's up for your spring break?

Hamilton High School and University of Nevada alumnus Dontay Moch's weekly blog about his journey to the NFL - COMBINE TIME.

WHAT A WEEK!

NAPLES

Feb. 21 (Monday). The week starts off great! One last hard workout before I start cooling down before the combine. 40 yd. dash, 3 cone, shuttle, LB Drills, DL Drills, bench, broad and vertical . . . DONE! Everything looks great and I feel that I'm ready!

Feb. 22 & 23 (FALSE ALARM). I wake up with a rush of excitement . . . time to head to Indy!! Wait a second . . . not quite. I relax a bit and realize that it's still days away until I have to head that way. Get in a light workout-a few 40 yd. starts and some cool downs. The rest of the day I have to myself. I catch on some much needed rest and get my body ready for what it was going to happen the weekend coming up. Wednesday is unlike any other day I have had since being in Naples: nothing to do but eat and watch TV all day.

Feb. 24 (Thursday). The day before I leave. I pack all my things to send back home, and pack my bag for Indy. The rest of the day I focus on what I need to do there to better myself as a player. I end up at a local school and walk through all my drills, starts, and jumps.

INDY

Feb. 25 (Friday, DAY ONE). After a slow start to the day with a four-hour flight delay, I arrive in Indy and meet up with three other guys I trained with that also will be joining me in the combine. As I get to the hotel I see a lot of other players (all players stay in the same hotel).

We get our information packets . . . everything is planned out for us . . . all we have to do is just show up when and where.

This first day we have welcome meetings, dinner, and medical history review.

Feb. 26 (Saturday, DAY TWO). Day two was a long day with drug testing and weigh in. I was ready to show everyone my weight because I weighed in very light at the East-West Shrine due to being sick with the flu. My name was called . . . 6'1" and some change. Weight 248 lbs. SOUNDS good to me. Then lunch, medical reviews by all the teams and interviews during the night time.

Feb. 27 (Sunday, DAY THREE). Day three had to be one of my easier days seeing that all we had was our bench test (225 lbs. rep) followed by last day of meetings. As I warm up for my bench test the only thought going on in my head is "JUST GO TIL I CANT NO MORE" 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, . . . 20 . . . 21 . . . 2- . . . ? 21 it is. Not my best but I'm still happy. Now on to meetings for the rest of the night. Before 9 pm I'm in a hurry to get into bed and get a great night of sleep before the MAIN day starts.

NOW, what you all have been waiting for "game day" the day we do all our testing, all the hard work all the time and energy I have put forth will now show!

Feb. 28 (Monday, DAY FOUR - GAME DAY). It's here, I'M HERE! I walk on to the field and it all hits me at once. My heart starts racing . . . I start getting excited as I begin warm-ups. I find myself in my zone. During measurements I know it is going to be a great day. Warm up gets a nice sweat going before our first event.

NUMBERS

Broad: 10'9"

Vertical: 42"

40: 4.4 seconds

3-cone: 7.0 seconds

Short Shuttle: 4.3 seconds

Bench: 21 reps

Weight: 248 lbs.

Height: 6'1

First, Broad Jump. Off in the air, it feels like I'm in the air for a split second. Second jump is 10'9" and I'm excited to run to my next events. After my 42" Vert, a huge smile comes to my face and I sit down so that I won't get overexcited for my 40 yard dash.

40-Yard Dash. After a few full speed starts to feel comfortable with the turf and envisioning myself running, I line up and tell myself: "I'm ready. It's my time. Let's do it." Great start. I get off the line the way I planned, the way I trained. Then my mind goes blank and the 40 is over very fast. Good thing or bad thing? For sure a good thing. After running again, I felt good but was it good enough? We do not find out times until the end of everything. Not knowing what I ran had my mind thinking.

Last are the drills, bags, wave run, ball drills, short shuttle, and three cone. Although I could have caught a couple more passes, I feel good about them .

Overall, it was definitely a good showing. I'm never satisfied but this combine was all about competing and turning some heads. It definitely got my name out there to those that didn't know and gave better information to those that did know. Now I'm just ready to play.

MEDIA WHIRLWIND

Since the combine it's been busy but enjoyable. ESPN First Take on Tuesday. Local Reno media. And the rest continues.

Thank you all for your support and your time. Pro day in Nevada, Reno on March 22.

Hamilton High School and University of Nevada alumnus Dontay Moch's weekly blog about his journey to the NFL - discussing a typical training day, Florida wildlife and Valentine's Day.

Hey everyone. I'm back for another weekly blog. Check out what I was up to from Feb. 7-13 and what a common training day for me is like. Remember: follow me on Twitter @DontayMoch and on Facebook at Dontay Moch.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

It's Monday morning, Feb. 7. The first thought on my mind is food! "What's for b-fast?" I ask myself. As I get out of bed, I'm motivated to get something to eat ... need to get my food tank back at full. I take a look to see what I have to eat. Hash browns, eggs with cheese, bacon, toast and a glass of milk is what I end up eating ... good way to start my day. Once all that is inhaled, I get on with my day, heading to Velocity Sports Performance to start my first of three workouts for the day.

Workout No. 1 (Speed Training)

As all of the rest of the guys start to show up, we begin with speed training. We work on our 5-10-5 drills, vertical jump, broad jump, 40-yard dash technique and finally the L drill. We do each of the drills about 5-8 times each to make sure we have our technique down, although there are times when we run a drill 20 times or more to focus on what we're doing wrong/right.

The more we do the drills, the more tired we get. However, it's when you're tired when the technique really kicks in. While working on each of those drills, our trainer has us slow each of them down to clean up our techniques to run smoother. Out of all the drills, I feel that the technique for the 5-10-5 drill is the most important because the cleaner your technique in the drill, the smoother and faster you're able to run.

I train with about 11 other guys. It's a great group of guys. On different days, I workout with a different guys, depending on what we're working on that day. It's great having the guys around. We keep the workouts entertaining. Yet we keep it focused and serious every day -- always pushing each other. It's important to have both the performance coaches and fellow players to motivate because we all motivate in different ways.

Lunch and Workout No. 2 (Weights Training)

Now its time for lunch. Once I arrive home from our first workout, my food tank is almost on empty once again. For lunch, I end up having a FEW sandwiches (one turkey, one ham, one both ham and turkey) with jalapeno chips, washing it down with a protein shake.

As I let that digest and enjoy some TV 'til our next workout, I look to my right and I notice that there is not only one muskgee (ducks that are always at my place), but three of them looking into my window right at me. It seems that the ducks had gotten word that there may be food scraps at my place lying around, but if they were listening, they would have known that I never leave scraps. My plate is always clean once I'm done eating! However, it seems that now they have became my pets -- they never go away, and even let me get super close to them.

I head back to begin our second training. It's weights time. After warmups, I focus on the 225-lb. rep test for the combine and a lot of other power and endurance workouts. That takes roughly two hours to complete.

Workout No. 3 (Position Drills)

We now head off to our third and final workout of the day. This workout focuses on our position drills that we will have to do at the combine. Things like four bags, pass drops, etc. These workouts may be a lot harder than the ones I faced in college; however, it is a much different focus now. The day is complete. The order of the workouts may change, but these are the type of workouts we do every day. Regardless, we go hard every day to pursue the dream that a lot of us have had since we were little.

"Nothing limits achievement like small thinking, nothing expands possibilities like unleashed imagination."

FREE TIME

My free time this week has consisted of much more eating, more movies, the Naples Zoo and also a few visits to the beach.

The movies that I have see this week have been "The Dilemma," "Just Go With It," "The Rite" and "True Grit." My favorites are "The Dilemma" and "The Rite." "The Dilemma" had one of my favorite comedy actors in it: Vince Vaughn. It was a very funny, goofy movie that had a little bromance in it. "The Rite" was a good movie if you are into drama and adaptation type of movies. The movie was an exorcism movie that helps a man find his faith and path through life.

Me and a few of the guys also went to see what the Naples Zoo had to offer. YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO CHECK OUT THE ZOO! Haha. We saw monkeys, birds, zebras, lions, panthers, gators and many other animals. Interestingly though, no muskgees there ... I guess they are all hanging around my place.

Memories

A few readers were asking about some stories from the past, so I'm cool to reminisce about high school life at Hamilton High in Chandler, Ariz., or college life in Reno, Nev. Starting next week, if you have any topics or stories you like me to tell, let me know.

Valentine's Day

Thank you all for taking time out of your day to read my blog. Have a great Valentine's Day -- Single Awareness Day (S.A.D.).

ONE WEEK AND SOME CHANGE 'TIL IT'S TIME TO SHOW EVERYONE WHAT I HAVE BEEN WORKING AT!!

As some may know, my name is Dontay Moch. I am a former defensive end / outside linebacker, number 55, from the University of Nevada Reno . . . home of the Wolfpack, where I played all four seasons. I would love to first start off by thanking my family and friends for pushing me to be whom I am today. Next I'd like to thank my coaching staff at Nevada, because without them I would not be placed in the opportunity I am now facing. Third I would like to thank the fans for supporting me throughout my college career.

I will be writing a weekly blog regarding what it is like to get ready for the NFL draft/combine, and also let you get an better idea of who I am as a person.

Sunday, February 6, 2011 (Super Bowl Sunday)

As I begin preparing meals for the Super Bowl... Before I get into my Sunday, let's back track a little to what brought me to this day.

January 22, 2011

Today is the day I play in the East vs West Shrine game. The build up of this game has motivated me to strive to become an overall better person. The Shrine game is more than just a football game, it is the opportunity to give back to those less fortunate. As both teams take the field I realize that everyone is there for the same reason, to play hard and to give back to the community. Although the East came up victorious, the West still enjoyed the opportunity to play in a game for such an amazing cause.

January 23, 2011

I head to the airport with my family leaving Orlando, FL, on my way to Naples, FL where I will be training for the next couple months preparing for the NFL Combine.

6pm

I arrive in Naples, FL. As I sit and eat dinner with my Agent, I realize that all my life, time, hard work, and dreams I have had since I was a child, will soon become reality.

Monday, January 24, 2011

First day of training

Velocity Sports Performance

I meet with Derek Touchette, my speed trainer, and he explains to me the process he has set out for me building up to the Combine. We do a run through of the schedule of activities:

Running and speed in the mornings

Weights in the afternoon

Recovery in the evenings

Throughout the week of the 21st-31st of January I perfect these drills and get comfortable with my new schedule and environment.

February 1st-6th (2nd week of training)

Now that everyone is conditioned and comfortable with the training, we start our time trials of the different drills we will go through at the Combine. My times were good, but there is still room for improvement. I'm looking to be the best, and shock and amaze everyone. Tune in for the combine to see what numbers it is I'll be clocked at.

Free Time: Naples, FL (movies and meals)

My free time has consisted of enjoying the weather, movies, food, and shopping. The weather is humid but hot and has been a nice change from the dry air and snow I was used to in Reno. I have seen quite a few movies since I've been here. I find movies something to do to relax. I've seen The Fighter, The Fockers, The Roommate, Sanctum, The Green Hornet, No Strings Attached, and The Mechanic.

Out of those movies I would have to say my favorite would have to be either the Mechanic or Sanctum, mainly because The Mechanic has the detailed action and graphics that I enjoy in a movie. Although Sanctum is a whole different type of movie, it was more of a thriller that kept me at the tip of my seat, had me guessing throughout the entire movie. It is for sure a must see!!

I have been eating/cooking a lot to keep getting my weight back up to where it needs to be. Having home cooked meals is definitely helping that I always find myself cooking meals such as fish.

Salmon is my favorite type of fish, I normally would smoke cook it with lemon pepper or garlic and herb with white rice and a side of Veggies. Also I do enjoy BBQ'n which leads to me cooking all types of meats/beef/corn (on the grill). Lastly my favorite quick meals would have to be pasta with white sauce, no matter what I have throughout the day I still find myself cooking pasta at least once a day.

This brings me to my next topic . . . MEALS: haha, I eat just about 6-8 meals a day; yes, I said 6-8 meals a day but yet I still don't feel FULL! Food is what I call my hobby. lol.

Now back to where I left off, it's Sunday Feb. 6, 2011. Super Bowl Sunday is on the TV. Both the Packers and the Steelers are beginning to take the field, although I do not have a favorite team I am still hoping this game will be a good one.

Packers with the victory, turned out to be a great game!
