ASU vs Washington State: Sun Devils emotional for senior teammates

Stephen Dunn

Senior Day is always an emotional time for football programs across the nation. Saturday will mark the final time ASU's seniors play at Sun Devil Stadium.

There are some things in life you never forget. When Arizona State's seniors come out of the tunnel on Saturday afternoon, they will be doing so for the last time in their career. As the State Press reported this week, this year's group of senior Sun Devils are already emotional:

When asked following Tuesday's practice what it will mean to take the field at Sun Devil Stadium one final time, the usually talkative redshirt senior linebacker Brandon Magee was overcome with emotion and unable to speak.

"I can't even talk about it," Magee said before apologizing for his silence.

Emotions, such as the ones on display from Magee and the other seniors on the ASU roster, are why Senior Day is so special and a bit more meaningful than the previous five home games.

The Devils are set to take on the Washington St. Cougars at 3 p.m. ET. A large crowd is expected by the athletic department and the game will be televised by Pac-12 Network.

Even coach Todd Graham is ready for what will be a trying day:

"I can still remember it like it was yesterday, my last (college) practice. I remember my last game. I remember the clock counting down on the field. I think it's very important that me, the coaches and other players who are not seniors respect that."

If there is something for ASU's seniors to look forward to, it's that they will be heavy favorites over Mike Leach's Cougars this weekend. Arizona State began the week as three-touchdown favorites and will be catching a WSU team currently in the midst of a controversy surrounding coaches abusing players.

Nothing is a given in college football, but it should be an enjoyable day for all of the Sun Devils' seniors.
