The Sun Devils will look to rectify mistakes they made against the Beavers as they prepare for the USC Trojans.

The Arizona St. Sun Devils got off to a decent start this weekend against the Oregon St. Beavers, but a poor showing in the second half halted any chance they had of pulling the road upset in Corvallis. With just a handful of games remaining on the schedule, ASU is running out of time to pad its resumé with hopes of reaching a big-time bowl game.
Following the 36-26 loss, House of Sparky reviewed the game and handed out grades. As you might have expected, they weren't too pleased with the results, especially with the offense. Here is what they had to say about quarterback Taylor Kelly, who has been one of the team's better players this season.
Quarterback: D-
(Kelly) hit his first six passes, and then...it all went to hell. Kelly regressed in the face of Oregon State's pressure, showing bad footwork, poor decision making and was inaccurate throughout the night, missing several open targets. His numbers -- 22 of 41 for 153 yards, one touchdown and one interception -- don't illustrate his poor play all night. The coaching staff did him now favors with the playcalling, but the fact remains that the highly efficient quarterback we've seen over most of the season was nowhere to be found on Saturday.
The only unit that fared even close to well was ASU's front-seven on defense; the defensive lined received a C+ for their efforts, while the linebackers got C-.
The Devils will need to get refocused in a hurry because they have a date with what's likely going to be a frustrated USC team next weekend. If Arizona State hopes to pull off the road upset, Kelly is going to have to play better against a vulnerable Trojans secondary.

Here is what I take away from Arizona State's 10-point loss against Oregon State on Saturday night.

So is anybody else tired of this whole jump out to a promising lead then fall flat on your face thing that Arizona State football has been up to lately?
For the third straight week, the Sun Devils were the first team on the board and for the third straight week, they were handed a devastating defeat. The Oregon State Beavers dominated the second half and although the score says 36-26, the deficit felt closer to four scores.
Here's my knee-jerk reactions from ASU's third consecutive loss:
I'd like to end my knee-jerk reaction piece with a very un-knee-jerky thought; although this game was a difficult pill to swallow, it wasn't that harmful to the Sun Devils' ultimate goal. With USC losing to Oregon, the Devils are still third in the South and remain basically in the driver's seat of their own destiny.
If ASU can take advantage of USC's frustration next week and upset the Trojans in the Colosseum, they'll be in great shape. The Bruins may be in first for now but they still have to close out their season with games against USC and Stanford. They should lose one, if not both of those meaning the Devils will be sitting pretty if they can handle their business.
But that's a big if at this point as the ASU team that showed up to play Saturday wasn't anywhere close to executing well enough to hang with the Trojans. Just to keep that flicker of a hope alive though, I'd like to pass along this fact: the Sun Devils have not lost to USC in any major men's sports since the Pac-12 was formed (and you can thank Jedi ASUf for that confidence-boosting loaded fact).

The Arizona State Sun Devils enter the half tied 19-19 with the Oregon State Beavers.
The Sun Devils opened the second quarter by continuing a drive from the first. While they were able to get inside Oregon State’s 20-yard line, Arizona State was forced to settle for a 31-yard field goal off the foot of kicker Jon Mora.
It only took the Beavers three plays to answer the field goal with a touchdown. This time it was running back Terron Ward who supplied the big play, rushing 53 yards for the score.
Both defenses held the score at 19-16 until Beavers kicker Trevor Romaine launched a 45-yard game-tying field goal as time expired.
Oregon State’s quarterback Cody Vaz only completed nine of his 20 pass attempts, but he did compile 125 yards and a touchdown in the first half. His counterpart, Arizona State quarterback Taylor Kelly, went 12-for-20 for 69 yards and no scores.

The Arizona State Sun Devils lead the Oregon State Beavers 16-10 after the first quarter.
Arizona State’s defense got the Sun Devils on the board quickly, as defensive end Junior Onyeali returned Oregon State’s quarterback Cody Vaz’s fumble for a touchdown.
The Beavers went on to put together a 49-yard drive that resulted in a 41-yard field goal off the foot of kicker Trevor Romaine. The big play was a 35-yard run by wide receiver Markus Wheaton.
The Sun Devils followed with a more traditional score, as running back Cameron Marshall capped off a nine-play, 75-yard drive with a one-yard rushing touchdown.
Vaz compensated for his costly fumble, tossing a 50-yard touchdown pass to Wheaton.
The defenses stood up for the remaining seven-plus minutes, and the Sun Devils unit again contributed to the team’s scoring effort. Arizona State defensive back Kevin Ayers blocked a punt that went for a safety, giving the Sun Devils a 16-10 lead.
