Arizona State faces former offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone and the UCLA Bruins' spread offense, but ASU defensive coordinator Paul Randolph says the Sun Devils are only concerned about themselves.
UCLA Bruins offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone returns to the familiar Sun Devil Stadium to face Arizona State this Saturday in his first season after leaving Arizona State. It's just one of many distractions that the ASU coaches aren't thinking about.
House of Sparky's Brad Denny talked with ASU defensive coordinator Paul Randolph about his players facing Mazzone, and like most everything else, Randolph said the Sun Devils are staying focused on themselves.
"I think there is familiarity amongst both staffs, no question about that, with him having spent so much time here," Randolph said of Mazzone. "For us, the most important thing is us just working on us, and that's the biggest thing and getting better every single day."
ASU will also not be thinking about the injury to defensive tackle Will Sutton, who is out with a bone bruise. Randolph said it's business as usual, and the players in place of Sutton will be expected to do their part on the defensive front.
Randolph told House of Sparky that he was still pleased with the consistent level of play from his Sun Devils, even during a 43-21 loss at the hands of the Oregon Ducks this week.
