Arizona Vs. Toledo: Offense Gives Cause For Optimism For Wildcats

Despite collecting 623 yards of total offense, the Arizona Wildcats were only able to outlast the Toledo Rockets in overtime, and only posted 24 points against the Rocket defense in their 24-17 victory on Saturday.

Quarterback Matt Scott accounted for nearly 400 yards passing and it was his 10-yard strike to Terrence Miller that claimed the victory for the Wildcats.

And yet, despite the victory and the huge offensive output, there remain some concerns about what the lack of turning yards into points can mean for the long season to come. Over at Arizona Desert Storm, expectations were tempered following the end of the game on Saturday night.

What'd we learn?

Arizona indeed lacks the talent to expect too much this season, especially on the defensive front. But as evidenced by Scott's gutsy game-winning throw, playmakers are present. Scott accounted for an incredible 456 total yards and despite some excited overthrows and an interception, will be a worry for opposing defenses.

Given the transition period expected during the changeover to new head coach Rich Rodriguez, the performance Saturday was encouraging, despite the mistakes across the board, according to the Arizona Desert Storm.

Most of all, Arizona will be able to survive in most games this season should they clean up their mistakes. It was concerning that the issues of last season again reared their heads, though it's understandable as the squad adjusts to the new offense and defense.
