Arizona Wildcats Lose Heartbreaker To Colorado

For the second time in three games the Arizona Wildcats lost at the buzzer. This time, it came at the hands of the Colorado Buffaloes as the team fell 64-63.

Jesse Perry led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Josiah Turner played a stellar first half, although he did not stand out in the second. The freshman point guard ended with nine points, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and one turnover. Kyle Fogg scored 16, while Solomon Hill added 10. Nick Johnson continued to struggle, scoring just two points on 1-of-5 shooting.

Carlon Brown led the Buffaloes to victory with 19 points. Spencer Dinwiddle scored 13 and brought down four rebounds, as as Austin Dufault added 12 points and six boards.

Arizona's tournament chances are essentially none unless they miraculously win the conference tournament in Los Angeles.

Arizona Wildcats Play Best Half Of Season, Lead Colorado Buffaloes At The Break

The Arizona Wildcats knew they would have to play at the top of their game if they hoped to come out of Boulder with a win. After one half of play, it's safe to say the UA received the message. At the midway point, the Wildcats lead the Colorado Buffaloes by a score of 39-35. The game is sold out and it has featured a raucous atmosphere throughout thus far.

Josiah Turner was the star of the first half. The freshman point guard played like the top-10 prospect he was last year and ended with nine points, three assists, a steal and no turnovers. He should have recorded even more assists, but the Colorado defense often clobbered the recipient of Turner's passes as they had an open look at the basket. Jesse Perry led all scorers with 12 points, including this monster dunk.

Solomon Hill and Kyle Fogg both had seven early points, but two fouls each limited their playing time. Nick Johnson has done a little bit of everything, scoring two points, dishing out two assists and bringing down three rebounds.

Colorado shot the ball very well in the first half and built a lead as big as four points. Spencer Dinwiddle led the way with 11 points, while Carlon Brown added seven.

This is shaping up to be a great finish in Boulder and the UA desperately needs the win to help their RPI and chances at a March Madness bid. The game is airing on Fox Sports Arizona and KWBA.

Arizona Wildcats To Face Tough Challenge Against Colorado Buffaloes

The Colorado Buffaloes are a very good team and the Arizona Wildcats cannot afford to start out slowly if they hope to win on the road. While a victory is certainly possible on Saturday afternoon, the UA needs to execute and block out the sellout crowd that is expected in Boulder. Here is our breakdown of the Buffs:

Nate Tomlinson is a steady senior point guard, although his stats will not blow you away. He averages six points and three assists, although he does a solid job not turning the ball over. He is the floor general for CU and will not be asked to score a chunk of points. Shooting guard Spencer Dinwiddie is one of the better freshmen in the conference and will be matched up with Kyle Fogg. It will be interesting to see how a guy with a handful of starts performs against the veteran in Fogg, who will be making his 89th start this weekend.

Carlos Brown will likely be the best player on the floor on Saturday and the small forward leads his team with nearly 14 points a night. His matchup with Nick Johnson will be interesting to watch, especially at the start, when Colorado will likely look to exploit the size advantage.

Austin Dufault is making the most of his senior season and is one of the more underrated players in the Pac-12. He shoots the ball well, attacks the rim, plays solid defense and could give the UA problems. Look for Solomon Hill to start the game guarding Dufault. Andre Roberson is undersized for a prototypical center, but the 6'7 sophomore averages a double-double, with a little more than 11 points and 11 rebounds most nights. Keeping him off the offensive boards is absolutely imperative for the Wildcats if they hope to win.

The Buffaloes are not an incredibly deep team but freshman guard Askia Booker can provide a big boost from the bench. And while he typically will not play more than a handful of minutes, 6'10 sophomore Shane Harris-Tunks could cause matchup problems in the paint with his size. Jeremy Adams will also get a bit of playing time, but he is not much of a scoring threat.

Final Prediction: I really want to think the Wildcats will continue their second half play from Thursday night and translate it over to Saturday in Boulder, but I just can't. It seems like this UA team has taken the motto of 'one step forward, one step back' for most of the season and Colorado plays very well at home. I expect the team to come out motivated and it will likely stay close throughout the game, but the Buffaloes are too much to handle as they win 69-60.

Arizona Wildcats Use Big Second Half To Dominate Utah Utes, Solomon Hill Ejected

The Arizona Wildcats struggled throughout the first half and saw their best player (statistically speaking, anyway) get ejected just a few minutes into the second half. With Solomon Hill out of the game, the UA could have fallen apart on the road. Instead, the team started playing with a sense of urgency and broke out a 21-2 run that all-but-ended the contest in Salt Lake City. The Wildcats won 77-51.

As for Hill's ejection, he and a Utah player got tangled up while going for a ball. The two exchanged words on the next possession before Arizona came back down the court. As Arizona began to run their offensive set, Hill elbowed the Utah player in the back of the head, knocking him down to the floor. It may not have looked blatant on video, but you had a sense something was coming. The Pac-12 will announce whether or not Hill will play against Colorado on Friday.

Kevin Parrom had 12 points off the bench and played aggressively for the first time in weeks. Kyle Fogg added 12 of his own and dished out a team-high six assists. Nick Johnson had 11 points and made three 3-pointers, although he had four turnovers in the first half.

Josiah Turner continues to play well and had 10 points, three assists, two steals, a block and just one turnover. Jesse Perry only had six points, but brought down 10 rebounds in 23 minutes of play.

Arizona outscored Utah 44-23 in the second half.

The Utes were playing their first game without star point guard Josh Watkins, who was kicked off the team on Wednesday for violating team rules, and they struggled throughout most of the game on the offensive end of the court. Big man Jason Washburn played well, recording 14 points and six rebounds, while Kareem Storey had 10 points, five assists and six turnovers.

The Wildcats needed to win and win big on Thursday night and they flat-out dominated Utah. Next up will be the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m. from Boulder.

Arizona Wildcats Lead Utah Utes At Half Despite Sloppy Play

The Arizona Wildcats played poorly for most of the first half against the Utah Utes, and despite shooting just 36% and turning the ball over eight times, they lead 33-28. The UA desperately needs a win on Thursday night and are playing in front of 2,000 or so fans at the Jon Huntsman Arena in Salt Lake City.

Kyle Fogg has led the way offensively for the Wildcats with six points, which came on back-to-back 3-pointers in the final minutes of the half. Josiah Turner has played very well, scoring five points, dishing out an assists, recording two steals and a block, all in just 12 minutes of time on the court. Solomon Hill is on his way to another double-double after recording five points and four rebounds thus far.

Utah is playing without their best player (and starting point guard), although they shot 50% from the field in the first half. Cedric Martin and Kareem Story both have seven points, while Chris Hines and big man Jason Washburn both have six.

Arizona is clearly the more talented team and should win this game by double digits. A loss would all-but-end the season for the UA.
