The amount of the offer is not currently known, though Sumlin is currently under contract through 2015 with Houston, along with a base salary of $1 million per year. KTAR reported today that ASU is "ready to spend" $2.5 million for Sumlin, a large payday for Sumlin if he decides to head for the desert.

Sumlin's Houston Cougars finished the season 12-0 and in line for a BCS Bowl bid, and now the question becomes whether he will stick around for the bowl game if hired by ASU. Houston plays in the Conference USA championship game on Saturday, and could wind up in the Sugar Bowl against an SEC opponent with another victory. Houston currently leads the nation in scoring at 52.6 points per game as well as an average of over 600 yards of total offense per game.
