Sun Devils Hang Tough For A Half, But Huskies Pull Away For 88-75 Win

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Matthew Bryan-Amaning had 30 points and nine rebounds to help 20th-ranked Washington take an 88-75 win over Arizona State in a Pac-10 battle at Bank of America Arena.

Isaiah Thomas had 19 points, eight assists and six rebounds while Scott Suggs added 10 points for the Huskies (15-4, 7-1 Pac-10), who have won three straight.

"Just glad we were able to come out with a victory," said Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar. "Matthew Bryan was very, very good. Obviously today, our guys did a good job of going inside and getting him the basketball."

Trent Lockett and Ty Abbott each put in 20 points for the Sun Devils (9-10, 1-6), who have lost three straight and five of six.

"I thought our guys really competed today," said Arizona State head coach Herb Sendek. "I thought we executed better on offense. We just keep trying to listen, see, learn, and just continue to work."

A 10-2 run was capped on a Suggs three-pointer to give Washington a 50-43 lead just over three minutes into the second half.

The Huskies extended that lead to eight points when Darnell Grant tipped in a shot for a 58-50 advantage with 11 minutes remaining.

Four straight free throws from Lockett a few minutes later made it a two-point game and, following one-of-two from Aziz N'Diaye, a Rihards Kuksiks three-ball tied the contest with six minutes left.

C.J. Wilcox, though, followed with a three-pointer and Venoy Overton added a layup for a 68-63 lead with 5 1/2 minutes to play.

Kuksiks drained one from long range to cut the deficit to 74-71 with just under three minutes left, but Bryan-Amaning countered with a layup and a turnover from Lockett saw Thomas put in a layup for a 78-71 advantage.

Two free throws from Abbott got Arizona State back to within five, but Suggs' three-pointer sparked an 8-0 run that Washington used to seal the win.

An 8-0 run early in the game gave the Huskies an 11-6 lead when Bryan-Amaning capped the burst on a jumper with 14 1/2 minutes left in the half.

Three-pointers from Lockett and Abbott helped the Sun Devils surge ahead, 18-15, at the halfway point of the frame, but Terrence Ross countered with a three-ball of his own.

The game remained close for the rest of the first half and Washington took a 40-39 lead into the break.
