The Arizona Diamondbacks play the Chicago Cubs on Saturday with little on the line but their pride. The D-Backs were eliminated from playoff contention on Friday despite winning, 8-3. The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Washington Nationals, shutting Arizona out of the postseason.
Trevor Cahill (12-12, 3.86 ERA) will be on the mound for Arizona, and Chicago will counter with Justin Germano (2-9, 5.65 ERA). Cahill has won three of his last four but posted a loss in his only outing against the Cubs this season. He gave up three runs on four hits over 5⅓ innings in a 3-1 Arizona loss in July.
Arizona is 4-3 against Chicago in the 2012 season, but has posted four straight wins at home. They went 0-3 in a series at Wrigley Field to open the second half of the year. Justin Upton and Cody Ransom both had a home run in Friday night's win; they'll look for more of the same against Germano.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. MST.
