How Good A Signing Was Jason Kubel For The Arizona Diamondbacks?

When Jason Kubel was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the decision was met by a lot of criticism. The team already was set in the outfield and Kubel would take time away from the Gold Glove winning and very popular Gerardo Parra. Plus, it was $15 million over two seasons.

He would be a downgrade defensively and most felt it was a waste of money.

↵

So, it turns out that the move was a good one. After hitting three homers on Saturday against the Houston Astros, he now has 20 on the season, along with 70 RBI, which leads the National League. He is batting .294.

↵

And his defense? He has 11 outfield assists to lead all of baseball, and is just one assist short of the team record of 12. Who set that mark? That would be Parra last season, whom Kubel replaces.

↵

Kubel is well on his way to over 100 RBI, which an Arizona hitter has not reached since 2009.

↵

Kubel has been the perfect addition to the lineup. Having him in a group of four outfielders that can start (Kubel, Parra, Chris Young and Justin Upton) makes the team better.

↵

At this point, nobody is doubting the move. I questioned it. But is has more than paid off. And in a season where a lot of things have gone wrong, it is good to know that there was at least one decision that didn't go bad.
