For Reliever Bryan Shaw, Season Has Been A Statistical Roller Coaster Ride

Stay connected for news and updates

Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Bryan Shaw has had his struggles recently. He allowed three runs on Friday and only retired one of five batters he faced on Thursday, allowing two earned runs, four total. His July has been a tough month for him.

In fact, statistically, he has been very up and down, according to the month.

In July, he has a 9.00 ERA in seven appearances. In June, he was good. His ERA was a stellar 0.79 in 11 games.

May? Not so good. His ERA was 6.10 in 13 games. But April, at the start of the year, he was awesome, at 1.74 and a pair of saves in 11 appearances.

The unfortunate thing is that with his current stretch, he might find himself demoted and back in the minors, especially if Takashi Saito returns, which he could do soon. And that, based on his season so far, would be unfortunate. If he follows his 2012 pattern, August should be his lights out month.

He might not get the chance.

There is still time. But he needs to get things right, and in a hurry, or he will be observing a team trying to get into the pennant race from Reno.
