While the Boston Red Sox have reportedly made it known that they are shopping third baseman Kevin Youkilis, and the Arizona Diamondbacks have a need to fill at third base, according to Steve Gilbert, a baseball source has indicated that the two teams have not had any talks about a trade.
While Boston has had interest in left-hander Joe Saunders for some time and that could be a reasonable trade, the financials might come into play. Youkilis has a $12 million salary this season and a $13 million team option for 2013. That option has a $1 million buyout.
Accoring to Gilbert, while the team has been willing to stretch their budget for a trade to stay competitive, "the price tag for Youkilis might be too steep."
Regardless of the report, these rumors will likely to continue to swirl.
