The Arizona Diamondbacks, who are coming off of a series win against the San Diego Padres and a 3-3 road trip, return home to face the Colorado Rockies. Arizona has been playing a little better as of late and has won six of their last 10 games. This series is actually a very important series for the D-backs because, due to the slumping play of the L.A. Dodgers, have crept within eight games of the division lead.

However, Colorado is only a game and a half behind Arizona, and the D-backs have certainly had their struggles at home. Arizona is only 10-15 at Chase Field, but Colorado has struggled mightily away from Coors Field, posting a paltry 8-15 record away from home.

The D-backs are starting to look a little better. More than one player is hitting well (currently Paul Goldschmidt, Gerardo Parra and Miguel Montero are playing well offensively) and the pitching staff has gotten solid performances from their starters recently.

The problems for Colorado have not been on offense. It has been the pitching. No starter on their staff has an ERA under 4.50.

On offense, Carlos Gonzalez leads the team with a .332 average, 14 home runs and 45 RBI. Diamondbacks killer Dexter Fowler is hitting .298 on the season, but .385 with five RBI against Arizona. He is currently day-to-day with an ankle injury.

Here are the probable pitching matchups for the series.

Monday: Christian Fiedrich (3-1, 5.59) vs. Joe Saunders (3-3, 3.69)

Tuesday: Jeremy Guthrie (3-3, 5.48) vs. Ian Kennedy (4-5, 4.26)

Wednesday: Josh Outman (0-1, 5.63) vs. Wade Miley (6-2, 2.72)
