Cahill Complete Game Shutout, Goldschmidt Bat Power Diamondbacks Over Padres, 6-0

With Sunday's resounding win over the San Diego Padres, the Arizona Diamondbacks are now 6-4 over their last ten games. It's not the kind of blistering pace the team needs to turn around their heretofore disappointing season, but maybe it's a start. Or maybe they just ran into a team even worse than they are.

Regardless of the long-term implications, it was a solid all-around game for the D-backs.

Trevor Cahill took a shutout into the ninth inning and finished his second-career complete game shutout. Cahill recorded a respectable line with five strike outs, three walks and six hits. Four induced double play balls by the sinker baller helped Cahill preserve the shutout. He threw just 109 pitches and faced just 31 batters in the win.

Paul Goldschmidt hit his sixth homer of the season and the second of the series to continue his hot-hitting ways. He extended an 11-game hitting streak with a solo blast in the second inning. He's now 18-43 (.419) over the past 12 games.

Miguel Montero hit a three-run blast in the sixth inning and Gerardo Parra hit a two-run shot in the seventh to complete the D-backs scoring.

This was a very solid game for the D-backs who now are just eight-games behind the L.A. Dodgers in the N.L. West. They head home for a series against the Colorado Rockies and Oakland A's.
