Wade Miley took the loss in Saturday's game, but despite the loss, he did do something pretty special. With his infield single in the eighth inning, he extended his hitting streak to eight games.↵
In doing so, he set a franchise record for the longest hitting streak by a pitcher. It surpassed the seven game streak that Dan Haren had in 2010.
Miley will be the first to tell you that his name has no business among those pitchers, who handle or handled the bat very well, as even a week ago he said that luck was the explanation for the streak.↵
I do not see this success necessarily continuing, but he obviously is relying on more than luck. He has a quick, compact swing and makes contact. You can't expect much more from a pitcher.↵
the great thing is that his hitting doesn't even come close to how great he has been pitching (eighth inning aside from Friday). There is certainly much time left in the season, but he is definitely a real candidate, at least for now, for Rookie of the Year.↵
