Patrick Corbin Struggles In 2nd Start, Mets Beat Diamondbacks 4-3

After a solid major league debut, left-hander Patrick Corbin did not have the same success in his second start. He was pitching in front of friends and family, as he grew up just a few miles from Citi Field in New York. He allowed four runs on five hits in three and one-third innings, with all runs coming in the fourth inning. Arizona, after snapping a nine-game losing streak in one-run games on Friday, lost by one run, falling short in their rally 4-3 to the Mets on Saturday.

Arizona got on the board first as Ryan Roberts homered in the second inning. But in the fourth inning, the Mets did their damage.

After one out, Corbin loaded the bases with two hits and a walk. Mike Nickeas plated two with a single. That chased Corbin and Josh Collmenter came into the game. After Johan Santana sacrificed the runners to second and third, Andress Torres, three for five in his career against Collmenter coming into the game, singled home the two runners.

The Arizona bullpen would hold New York the rest of the way.

Paul Goldschmidt got Arizona back within one run with a two-run double in the top of the fifth inning, but that was it.

In the ninth inning, Aaron Hill and Justin Upton both had Willie Bloomquist at second with a chance to tie the game, but Frank Francisco closed the door getting Hill to fly out and striking out Upton to end the game.

Johan Santana went seven innings and got his first win of the season. Francisco nailed down his sixth save of the year.

The two teams have the rubber game of the series on Sunday, starting at 10:10 AM Arizona time.
