D-backs Battle Elements In Colorado, Defeat Rockies 5-2 Behind Trevor Cahill

Following a demoralizing loss on Saturday night in the ninth inning, the Arizona Diamondbacks needed to get back on track against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon. Despite cold, windy, rainy conditions at Coors Field -- it literally looked like a rainy blizzard during the seventh inning -- the D-backs came away with a 5-2 victory behind a stellar pitching effort from Trevor Cahill.

The young lefty worked 7.1 impressive innings, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks. He struck out six Rockies hitters on the afternoon. The Diamondbacks bullpen kept things interesting late with their inability to get out of a jam in the eighth inning, but Bryan Shaw worked out of a bases loaded situation in the eighth before completing a perfect ninth inning.

Chris Young continued to hit everything in sight, belting a two-run homer in the first inning to give Arizona an early lead. Young came up big once again in the third with an RBI-single to left that scored Gerardo Parra. With the bases loaded, Aaron Hill delivered a two-out, two-run single to left to extend the lead to 5-0.

The D-backs will return home to warm Arizona on Monday to kick off a three-game tries with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Joe Saunders will take the mound in the first game, and he will be opposed by Erik Bedard. First pitch is set for 6:40 from Chase Field.
