VIDEO: Jason Marquis & Josh Thole Go Tumbling

Stay connected for news and updates

It's not often that you see a pitcher get the worst of a hit-by-pitch scenario, but that's exactly what happened to Jason Marquis of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fourth inning against the New York Mets. Marquis wound up to pitch against Josh Thole, and then after releasing it, crumpled to the ground clutching his right leg.

Supposedly Marquis fractured the leg when Angel Pagan knocked a line drive off of him in the third inning, but Marquis was able to pitch up until here, when he was taken out. Early reports are fractured leg, which probably means the end of his season.

This is the second broken bone for the Diamondbacks in this series. Xavier Nady broke his hand Friday night against the New York Mets.  The Diamondbacks could replace Marquis in the rotation with Micah Owings or Zach Duke in the bullpen, or go for Barry Enright from Reno.
