Banged Up D-backs Close Home Stand With Rockies Brunch Date

The Arizona Diamondbacks are beat up and banged up and in the case of poor Stephen Drew's ankle, seriously messed up. That (obviously) won't keep them from fielding a team Sunday to try and win the series against the Rockies. A win would finish up the home stand 6-4 while a loss would mean a much more disappointing 5-5 result.

Gerardo Parra has been hitting the cover off the ball but will sit out Sunday's day game thanks to a pitch that beaned him in the wrist in the seventh inning of Saturday's blowout win. The x-rays are negative and he reports soreness but it's not looking like an injury that will keep him on the bench too long. Xavier Nady starts in left field in Parra's place.

Kelly Johnson will miss his second game with a calf injury that hopefully won't linger. Asked if holding Johnson out was a concern or precautionary, Kirk Gibson gave a Gibby-like evasive response, "You just deal with situations and do what you have to do."

OK.

On the positive side, closer J.J. Putz threw another successful inning with the Reno Aces and felt fine after. Gibby reports that he'll rejoin the club in San Diego on Tuesday.

Here's the starting lineup for Sunday's game:

Bloomquist SS, Parra LF, Upton RF, Young CF, Montero C, Blum 3B, Roberts 2B, Allen 1B, Owings RHP

In other news, it looks like the D-backs have added yet another veteran to the organization's ranks.

Diamondbacks signed Angel Berroa to a minor league deal; he'll head to Reno tomorrow.

With Drew done for the season and Cody Ranson getting yanked from the Aces, Berroa will add depth at the short stop position should another injury occur or one of the other many journeyman infielders struggle.
