Jonathon Niese went seven strong innings, and Jason Pridie added a three run home run as the New York Mets swept the Arizona Diamondbacks, winning 8-4 on Sunday afternoon in New York City.
David Wright, Carlos Beltran, Ike Davis and Jason Bay combined for seven hits on the day, solving Arizona starting pitcher Armando Galarraga and reliever Josh Collmenter.
Stephen Drew had a great game for the D-backs, going 3/4 on the afternoon and picking up two RBI. Gerardo Parra added two hits in a rare start. Chris Young and Miguel Montero both went 0/4 on the game.
The Diamondbacks were never in the game, as the Mets jumped out to a six run lead in the third inning on Pridie's three-run homer. Wright hit two home runs (in the first and fourth innings, respectively).
With the loss, Arizona drops to 8-12 on the season, and a once-promising road trip has turned into a rough stretch for the D-backs. There is no rest for the wary, as they travel back to the Grand Canyon state to take on the Philadelphia Phillies tomorrow night at Chase Field.

The Diamondbacks will look to snap a three-game losing streak today in their match-up against the New York Mets.
Armando Galaragga (3-0, 6.00 ERA) will be the Diamondbacks' starting pitcher. Galaragga went 4-9 in 2010 as a Detroit Tiger, and he could match last season's win total with a victory today.
On the other side, the Mets will start Jonathon Niese (0-3, 5.87 ERA). Niese will look to avoid losing his fourth consecutive start of the season.
The Diamondbacks are 8-11 on the season while the Mets are 8-13.
The game will begin at 10:10 a.m. AZ time and the game will be broadcast locally on Fox Sports Arizona.

Barry Enright pitched an OK game but OK wasn't good enough to get the win. The Diamondbacks lost the second game of the series to the Mets and their third-straight on the road. So much for coming home with a plus-.500 record.
AZ Snake Pit has the full recap of Saturday's action.
Diamondbacks 4, Mets 6: Well, at least it wasn't (completely) on the bullpen - AZ Snake Pit
Although some may look at today's rain delay as a nuisance (originally a 10:10MST start delayed until 11:30MST), it was all well and good for me. I mean, sure, there's the obvious benefit of enabling me to be awake on-time to watch the game I was supposed to recap, but more importantly, I was able to see the dog that threw out the first pitch. I mean, I know the organization was hit hard by the whole Madoff scandal, but that's gotta be an all-time low. Oh, wait, they had puppets sing the national anthem, too?

The Diamondbacks will look to bounce back from Friday's 4-1 loss against the New York Mets with a win in Game today.
Arizona will start Barry Enright (0-1, 6.23 ERA), who pitched for only five and one-third innings on Sunday in a 6-5 12-inning win against the San Francisco Giants. Enright will look to turn his season around in today's game.
Enright will go up against the Mets' Dillon Gee (1-0, 1.59 ERA), who allowed one run and five hits on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves (the Mets went on the win 3-2).
The Diamondbacks are 8-10 on the season while the Mets are 7-13.
The weather report out of New York calls for a 100 percent chance of rain. It's questionable if this game will start on time and/or be played without stoppages.
The game will begin at 10:10 a.m. AZ time and the game will be broadcast locally on Fox Sports Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are going to be unhappy with this game. Starter Joe Saunders gives a solid six innings before getting pulled after walking a man in the seventh with a 1-0 lead. Skipper Kirk Gibson elects to go with the inconsistent Esmerling Vasquez out of the pen and pays the price for the decision.
Vasquez takes the loss as he allowed Saunders' runner to score along with ASU product Ike Davis off Davis' home run. Juan Gutierrez didn't fair much better as he allowed a couple of runs thanks to an error on an easy come-backer, a walk and two hits allowed.
The score will tell you all you need to know about the Diamondbacks offense. They managed to get five hits of Mike Pelfrey over seven innings. Justin Upton drove in the only D-backs' run off a bloop double that Carlos Beltran misplayed on a sliding catch.
The D-backs and Mets are back at it on Saturday with an 10:10 a.m. AZT start. Barry Enright will face Dillon Gee.
AZ Snake Pit has more recap of this depressing loss.

The Arizona Diamondbacks (8-9) have won three of their last four games and are feeling mighty pleased with themselves for winning a second series against the Cincinnati Reds. They take those good feelings into New York for a weekend meeting with the Mets who are 6-13 on the season.
The Mets, like the Los Angeles Dodgers, are mired in their own financial mess but unless the team accountant takes the field, that shouldn't matter.
The series will feature Joe Saunders (0-2, 6.32) against Mike Pelfrey (0-2, 9.72) in Game 1 on Friday.
Saturday's day game has Barry Enright going against Dillion Gee and Sunday it will be Armando Galarraga versus Jon Niese. The Snakes will avoid former D-back Chris Capuano in this series.
Offensively, the Diamondbacks sit at fourth in the league in slugging percentage while the Mets are 18th. Remember when we were worried about the power deficit after getting rid of Mark Reynolds and Adam LaRoche?
The Mets lineup includes Carlos Beltran who's bat seems to be fairly productive so far this season.
Game time is 4:10 p.m. AZ time and the game will be broadcast locally on Fox Sports Arizona.

Series Preview #7: Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Mets - AZ Snake Pit
Following a surprising series victory against the division-leading Reds, our Diamondbacks travel to New York to square off against the Yankees Mets in the venerable "House that Madoff Built."With the New York Knicks currently in the NBA playoffs and officially competent again, the Mets have been thrust into the role of "Dysfunctional Team the New York Media Enjoys Ruthlessly Scapegoating." Not that it's unjustified.
