Kevin Kolb Injury Might Not Keep Him Out Of KC Game

Kevin Kolb had as bad a game as he could have had for six plays on Sunday night. He was picked off and left the game with an injury. However, the rib contusion he suffered doesn't appear to be too serious and it is possible that he could practice this week and play in Kansas City on Friday.

Kent Somers tweeted that head coach Ken Whisenhunt stated as much, which would be very good for the quarterback. Somers also heard from Kolb that there were no broken ribs, but that it was bruised ribs and diaphragm. There is no timetable for his returning.

The other injury that occurred in the game was linebacker Paris Lenon, who left the game after Mark Ingram scored on a one-yard touchdown run with an ankle injury. However, Lenon downplayed the injury, saying he was fine and that he wasn't going to go back in the game anyway.

Other than Kolb and Lenon, there have been no other reported injuries as of now.

Kevin Kolb Injured In Saints 17-10 Win Over Cardinals In Hall Of Fame Game

It is only the beginning of the preseason and the starters for both teams only played in the first quarter. However, things did not go well for the Cardinals early with Kevin Kolb starting with the first team. The defense looked awful, missing several tackles as the Saints rolled down the field for a touchdown. Kevin Kolb was intercepted and left the game with an injury. But thanks to

Drew Brees, the $100 million, took New Orleans down the field in 10 plays to score a touchdown. Mark Ingram took the ball into the end zone from one yard out.

Then Kevin Kolb had three series of ineffectiveness. His first pass was intercepted. In the second series, he underthrew Andre Roberts and had to throw away a third down pass running away from pressure up the middle in the end zone. On the first play of the next series, he was hit by Sedrick Ellis as he got the ball off and he landed awkwardly, causing a rib contusion. He left the game.

John Skelton finished the drive but got nowhere. On the next one, he was effective and got help from the running game, going against the Saints' backups. 14 plays and 90 yards led to a four-yard scamper by Alfonso Smith into the end zone to tie the game. Smith ran for 46 yards on the drive.

After that, Chase Daniel, Drew Brees' backup at quarterback, showed some promise. He led the Saints to 10 points and threw for 203 yards.

That would be it for the Saints.

Ryan Lindley would lead the Cardinals to a third quarter field goal and almost got the tying touchdown late in the game, but was intercepted at the goalline.

Key Cardinals stats:

Kevin Kolb 1/4 4 yds, 1 INT

John Skelton 4/6 32 yds

Ryan Lindley 10/21 118 yds 1 INT

LaRon Byrd, four catches 54 yards

Rob Housler, three catches 51 yards

Cardinals injuries:

Kevin Kolb, ribs

Paris Lenon, ankle

Arizona will travel to Missouri to practice with the Kansas City Chiefs, whom they will play on Friday.

Hall Of Fame Game Score Update: Saints Lead 17-7 At Halftime

In the first preseason game of the season, there has been a little bit of all the bad you could want for the Arizona Cardinals in the first half. They have turned the ball over, missed a lot of tackles and had injuries. At the end of the fist half of the Hall of Fame Game, The New Orleans Saints lead the Arizona Cardinals 17-7 at the end of two quarters.

The Saints scored first on a 10-play, 77-yard drive in which missed tackles were the theme. Mark Ingram scored on a one-yard rushing TD.

The Cardinals did not score in three series with Kevin Kolb at quarterback. He was intercepted once and left the game with a rib injury,

On the Cardinals' next series, they went 90 yards on 14 plays to score a touchdown on a four-yard rush by Alfonso Smith, who ran for 46 yards on the drive. Skelton was 4/5 for 32 yards as well.

New Orleans then got a field goal and scored right before halftime when they went 94 yards in 1:21 with Chase Daniel shredding the Arizona backups. Daniel threw a four-yard TC to RB Travaris Cadet.

The second half is coming up.

Arizona Cardinals Score 1st TD With John Skelton As QB

After Kevin Kolb left the game in the first quarter with a rib contusion, John Skelton came into the game to play quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. That drive ended in a punt, but the next series was a successful one. It was a 14-play, 90-yard drive that ended with an Alfonso Smith four-yard rush into the end zone.

He got Larry Fitzgerald the ball for the first time in the game with the final play of the first quarter.

The drive was highlighted by some great running by Alfonso Smith, but Skelton did his job. He was 4/5 during the drive for 32 yards.

Smith carried the ball eight times for 46 yards and Williams Powell had a carry for five yards.

In the end, it resulted in six points, even if it was against the backup players of the Saints' defense.

Kevin Kolb Injury Ends His Night In Hall Of Fame Game

Kevin Kolb managed to last a total of six plays in the Hall of Fame Game with the first team offense. Unfortunately, he erased no doubts and actually made concerns even worse. In his three drives, he was intercepted, had to scramble out of the end zone for an incompletion and then got hit and left with an injury.

He was intercepted on his first throw of the game, attempting to throw an "out" to Andre Roberts to the left. He was picked off by Malcolm Jenkins.

The second drive ended with a three-and-out. He threw two incomplete passes, the final being a throw-away while running away from pressure up the middle in the end zone.

His third drive lasted a play. He was pressured and got a throw away, completing it to Anthony Sherman, but he was hit as he went down and was injured. It was a rib contusion and he is doubtful for returning. Of course, being a preseason game, he will not come back.

Here is the play in an animated gif.

Cardinals Vs. Saints, Hall Of Fame Game Injury Report: Darnell Dockett, Adrian Wilson Out

It is the first preseason game of the 2012 season and actually a pre-preseason game for both the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints, so teams are going to be particularly careful with injuries, since it is in essence and meaningless game. So in the Hall of Fame Game, there will be a few key players out for the Arizona Cardinals players.

The Cards will have 11 players out for the game:

  • CB Crezdon Butler (hip)
  • DT Darnell Dockett (hamstring)
  • DE Nick Eason (family illness)
  • CB Marshay Green (hamstring)
  • RB Javarris James (abductor strain)
  • TE Jeff King (quad -- on PUP)
  • LB Zack Nash (ankle)
  • RB Beanie Wells (knee -- on PUP)
  • RB Ryan Williams (knee)
  • WR Stephen Williams (hamstring)
  • S Adrian Wilson (calf)

Most of these absences were no surprise. The ones that have the most to lose by not playing are Stephen Williams and Marshay Green, who are at best on the fringe of the final roster.

However, with four preseason games still to be played, the team is not going to push it with any of the players.

Arizona Cardinals Hungry For An Opponent

It was blatantly obvious after last Wednesday night's practice, that the Cardinals players were getting tired of going against one another. After a week of togetherness in the close confines of Flagstaff, where the players eat, sleep, study, and practice together, one could easily tell that the Cardinals were more than ready to face an opponent. That opportunity comes this Sunday, August 5, as the Cardinals will face the New Orleans Saints in the preseason opener, the NFL Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio.

Offensive tackle Jeremy Bridges was definitely one of the more vocal players during the Wednesday night practice, especially towards the end during the goal line drill. Here is what he said about training camp, and looking forward to playing on Sunday. "We kind of get on each other's nerves. We've been in camp longer than anyone else, and it's getting to that point where I need to see another helmet, besides one with a bird on it."

Calais Campbell said, "We can't wait. We're really looking forward to going out there Sunday, because any time you're on the field you want to dominate and ball out. When you're going against your teammates it's kind of hard to really want to go as hard as you can. When you get a chance to go against somebody else, you want to go as hard as you can, you know, try to beat them as bad as you can." Campbell added that playing in the Hall of Fame game will add even more to the atmosphere, and he is really looking forward to it.

When asked about their first preseason game, Kevin Kolb said "We're excited to go to Canton. There's a lot of hoopla surrounding the game. We'll enjoy it and go out there and compete our butt off."

Sam Acho, one of young linebackers who had a very promising rookie season with the team last year added, "This team has so many passionate players, so many people that are just ready to hit somebody in a different colored jersey."

Larry Fitzgerald said the team is looking forward to playing somebody else and hitting some other guys. "We're looking forward to Sunday. It's going to be a great test for us, but we should be able to go out there and execute and get some things done." He finished by saying "Obviously we would love to score some points and get off the field with no injuries."

Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt echoed Fitzgerald's comments by saying, "I just hope that we play a good physical game, and that we don't make any mistakes; that we come out of it injury free. There will be a lot of energy with this game because it is the Hall of Fame game." Coach also emphasized that as a team, "We're about ready for a game," and added, "I know we'll play hard."

The Hall of Fame game has been the staple game to signify the start of a new football season, and it will finally give the Cardinals another opponent to compete against. It will serve as a good gauge as to the progress of the team, and give Coach Whisenhunt an opportunity to evaluate players in a live game. The Cardinals need to be careful what they wish for, however, as the Saints are probably just as hungry to face an opponent.
