Arizona quarterbacks Kevin Kolb and John Skelton will each be held out of the team's fifth preseason game, according to reports.

The quarterback situation continues to remain interesting for Arizona head coach Ken Whisenhunt heading into his team's fifth and final preseason game, as it now appears that both Kevin Kolb and John Skelton will each not play on Thursday against Denver according to the Arizona Republic's Kent Somers.

The two inconsistent signal callers, who remain in a hotly-contested battle for the team's starting quarterback job to open the regular season, have each played quite poorly this preseason to further complicate Whisenhunt's decision. Both players have earned a pair of starts already this preseason, but it was Skelton who opened the team's fourth game against Tennessee under center.

It's quite odd that Whisenhunt would opt to keep both players out of action on Thursday, and especially when the competition appears to be so tight at the moment. Neither player has done enough to separate himself this summer, despite the fact that this very well could have happened against the Broncos if both guys were actually allowed to suit up. Kolb's albatross of a contract makes him an eye-sore to have wasting away on the bench, but it looks like Whisenhunt and company are fully prepared carry this messy situation into the regular season.
