Pressure Stats Show Good And Bad For Kevin Kolb, John Skelton

Quarterbacks Kevin Kolb and John Skelton saw a lot of pressure in 2011 because of the play of the team's offensive line. Both also struggled because Kolb did not know the offense well enough to make quick reads and Skelton just does not read defenses well yet.

A breakdown of stats for both quarterbacks under pressure and where they stand among other QBs in the league show us both good and bad.

↵

Kevin Kolb was among the worst at taking sacks -- the fourth worst at 23.7 percent of the time. However, he was the fourth most accurate under pressure, completing a little over half his throws for an adjusted accuracy rating of 66.7.

↵

Skelton did not take as many sacks, but he had issues hitting his receivers. He was the fourth worst at accuracy under pressure. When hurried, he completed just over 39 percent, for an adjusted accuracy rating of 50.

↵

Although they were not ranked highly nor poorly, based on the interceptions both threw, Skelton was more prone to turning the ball over.

↵

Both have things they need to improve. It bodes well for Skelton if he improves his ability to make presnap reads and have better mechanics.

↵

If Kolb's issues a season ago were truly the result of not knowing the offense, then if he knows it, he should look much, much better because he will know where to get the ball, take less sacks and complete more passes.

↵

The QB battle has yet to really begin, but once training camp rolls around, we will start to see (hopefully) some separation.
