Arizona Cardinals Mandatory Minicamp, Where Everyone Is Happy

The Arizona Cardinals began their mandatory three-day minicamp with only one absence. Defensive lineman Nick Eason was not there and was attending to a family matter, according to a Kent Somers tweet. However, and it should be noted, there is not a single player grumbling about his contract. Calais Campbell has his, Darnell Dockett has his, Anquan Boldin is gone, Karlos Dansby is gone, and it seems everyone is happy.

Across the league, there are contract problems. Maurice Jones-Drew missed the first day of minicamp. Darrelle Revis is upset with his contract, but he showed up and worked out. Drew Brees, Ray Rice and Matt Forte all were absent from their team workouts because they have not yet signed their franchise tenders and are holding out for a long-term contract.

↵

For the Cardinals, this historically is something new. Over the years, they have had their share of players with issues with their contracts. They also had the reputation for being cheap and losing their key players because they did not want to pay them too much.

↵

While that still lingers, now the team is targeting key players and keeping them around. They are paying them and rewarding them.

↵

So the start of minicamp was a little boring in some way. All their draft picks are under contract and no one is talking about their own contract. It's all about football -- just the way it should be.

↵

it just makes things a little less interesting for people in the press.
