NFL Week 10, Arizona Cardinals: Beanie Wells to return to practice this week

Matt Kartozian-US PRESSWIRE

The Cards are hoping that Beanie Wells will be ready to go when he is reactivated from the reserve/recall list.

Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells won't be eligible to play until Nov. 25 against the Rams, as he was placed on the reserve/recall list earlier this season with a toe injury. However, that won't stop him from practicing up until that game. Wells can start practicing this week.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt spoke about Wells and his recovery on Monday, saying the time off did more than just help his injured toe, according azcardinals.com:

"Just seeing him go through the process … I’m sure there will be some soreness in the toe," Whisenhunt said. "I just want him to get started so he can have a good week of practice next week (before the Falcons) as well."

Whiz said he expects the off time has also helped Wells’ knee, which did not seem right even before his toe injury. "He’s got to put the helmet and the pads on and actually do it from a football perspective to know for sure, but it appears that way, which is a big benefit," Whisenhunt said.

The Cardinals have struggled in the ground game this season. Arizona is last in the NFL in rushing yards per game and yards per carry. The biggest rushing play on the year went for 27 yards, which is the third-lowest of any NFL team.

Wells was ineffective this season before going down to injury. He carried 29 times for just 76 yards. He did show in 2011 that he is able to carry the load and succeed, as he rushed for 1,047 yards and 10 touchdowns.
